Should I 'settle' for a Picotin 22 if I can't get 18?

My first picotin was P22 in noir. But I rehomed it as I never used it. Then I got myself a P18 in anemone - both pop and neutral colour! Love it as it is a fun size but later I bought a tricolor P22 (rose mexico/rose extreme/rouge de coeur). Love both sizes and I use them for different occasions - of course P22 fits a lot more stuff (which I love). I agree with you, a Picotin should be in a fun colour! All the best in finding your Picotin!

Whoa! Tricolour?? I haven't seen one but what a beauty in those colours... I think I'm craving that 'pop' so 18 it is! Thank you :)

I'm really caught between Picotin 18 and 22 (and yes, I've scoured the forum for previous topics). My issue is that I'm nowhere near a physical Hermes store, the Australian online store occasionally has a Picotin up but they disappear within seconds AND most of the colours are neutral. I'm chasing a big hit of colour this time so I'm thinking Ultraviolet, Iris, Rouge Casaque, Rubis, Rose Jaipur, Rose Poupre or similar. Even Orange/Feu may be an option. I'm throwing those colours up as I can access Picotin in those colours from resellers.

I'm finding however that secondary market Picotin 18 are more expensive compared to 22s. I'm guessing that being a hot, cute item, the 18 is popular. However, I'm not even sure if it's right for me. I know I don't want a medium sized bag (I have enough with a vintage Massai and various LVs) so I'm justifying this purchase because I don't have a smallish, going out bag that is on the dressier side. I'm 5'7" and US 6 so do you think the 22 is still going to be smallish and cute? I don't want something that will be bigger than a Speedy 25, which is the only size reference I have. I also don't want to regret not holding out for an 18.

Thoughts please?
The 22 is not smallish and cute. It’s medium And practical and has presence. Wait for what you want

What’s the current price for the picotins? I see some preloved at great prices but I rather begin my purchase history with Hermès.
I’m most interested in 22 and up (sounds like occasionally a larger version pops in?)

Agree. I find 18 to be just for looks or phone and wallet. 22 is not big at all. Think of all the ladies vying for a B25 or K25. A pico 22 is usable practical and still very cute

Oh I love your Pico 22! Thank you for sharing. I'm loving my P18 for nights out etc. but now not ruling out a P22 for my daily bag as I may be moving some more LV on later this year. The leather is amazing...

I'm not sure where you are but if you have a store near you, I'd certainly find out if they can get the 22 you want. I would have bought direct from Hermes but it's hard getting the vibrant colours to Australia and I live in a State that doesn't have a store and it wasn't likely that I'd bee able to secure one remotely. Lots of great pre-loved options though so I'm content to go that way again unless travelling is possible sooner than later.

I love both but wanted a bag specifically to take to dinner/parties so went with 18. If I end up moving on more LVs, I'll certainly consider a 22
I’m so glad you got a P18 that you love and waited for it. I never wanted a pico then suddenly it was so hard to get and I grown to like it. I have seen and tried the P22 in noir and wondered how the 18 would be and it’s hard to come by as well. So I managed to try an 18 in eclat (blue nuit and another blue hee) and based on my overall look the 18 looks nice hand carried but seems abit too small but a pop of colour would be a different story. See attached when I managed to get a comparison. But I decided to let the 18 go and wait for a 22 as it’s more practical for me and will make my overall look more balanced. I got two SAs looking out for me and I only asked about it in Sept. After discussing colours, hardware and options (what colour combo would come “quicker”) as I hope to get one before the next PI in Jan 2022…one SA managed to secure a 22 in etoupe with phw. Easier options discussed but may not be available were trench and biscuit. I only tried this etoupe colour in an Evelyn 29 which I didn’t like but in a picotin it seems to look nice on photos so I’m looking forward to see it this week.

Thanks so much for posting the pic. I think the difference between 18 and 22 is only subtle but I'm already sure that I will get a 22 for my everyday bag at some stage, letting go of some of my LVs that I don't really use. The 18 is so sweet but definitely just for short outings. I wish we had more colour options coming into Australia but unless there's a secret stash coming soon in time for Christmas, I'll keep my eye open for pre-loved.

It's so interesting how some colours look meh on some bags, but look amazing on others. I'm a little bit curious about Evelyne but I think I'd opt for a brighter colour for that style. Picotin seem to be just perfect in any colour :D I hope some other colours in the 22 arrive for you before January. I don't know Trench but I have seem some Biscuit bags and it's a tricky colour for me.
