When I don’t want to use a roller bag, these are the best. I went for the gold 
which has a nice shimmer to the leather, also hoping to avoid a big black hole when packed.

I was lucky to snag one a bit cheaper through Nordstrom with their current sale after their anniversary sale (it was a gamble) but I’m happy with it. I will follow your lead and jump on those xs le pliage ones next year if they have them again.
A removable strap is a must for me though.
