I thought I knew quality and had been a fan of Stone Mountain bags since High School. In 1994, I was a young single mother working as a waitress, when I stopped in at a Garage Sale on the way to the grocery. Hanging in the back was a "Like New" black leather with brass trim "Whitney" bag. I had no idea what Coach was! I purchased a pair of Brand New feather and down bed pillows (still with packaging on them, otherwise I would have never...) and some cute toddler boy's clothing when I saw it. Mind you, I had been carrying around a "Little Me" diaper bag as a purse for the last two years. So, I thought the bag was large enough to carry my toddler's things; juice cup, a pull up or two, and various toys. Plus, I was ready for a little fashion upgrade. There was no price tag on the bag and I offered $5. The lady said "Oh no, honey, that's a Coach bag and my husband bought me that at Christmas for almost $400 and I've only used it once or twice. I won't take anything less than $30." I think my eyes bugged while she's telling me this-lol! Skeptical, I asked her why she was selling it and she said it was too big for her. She took it off the hanger and put it on her shoulder and it came to her knees, because she was only about 5 foot tall. I told her I didn't have $30 to spare and was spending my grocery money anyway, and I'd just take the things I really needed. She must have felt sorry for me and my "almost" missed opportunity when she said she'd give it to me for $25 and throw in the other stuff as a bonus. At the time, I didn't realize how nice Coach bags were, but that Whitney made me a true fan. Whitney bags were unlined and I used the heck out of it, spilling a multitude of juice cups in it. I'd just rinse it out and hang it to dry! 10 years later, it still looked beautiful. I actually sold it on Ebay after using it for 10 years, for $150. Now, I'm a nurse and have 10 Coach bags. Although, I have to say, they aren't the quality they used to be, but still a decent bag at the outlet prices.

Word of mouth and the people I see whenever I go out. There is bound to appear that one or two Coach bags that I see and would go, nice design! Looks like good quality! Almost everyone will know what Coach is. It is the one gateway brand to luxury bags, a stepping stone to appreciation of contemporary good bags.
