Have you started carrying a new cell phone, or a camera?

My Canon Elph camera sets store alarms off all the time. I bought the darn thing so I could have a camera on me all the time, but now I have to leave it at home if I'm going shopping because it sets store alarms off all the time (not all store alarms, but enough to be annoying).

I have had my rebecca MInkoff Niki bag for a while now and its all of a sudden setting off alarms as I walk IN and OUT of some stores. I have emptied it out, patted it down and searched for small stuck on sensors and everything- I have found nothing!! Do you think it could be all the hardware? It's super embarrassing but I refuse to let it sit in the closet just b/c of the alarm thing. Is this happening to anyone else??

I know that this is an old thread but this happened to me TWICE with bags purchased at the outlet. Both times it was due to little sensors in the corner of the zip pockets...way deep down and barely noticeable.

Oh ok thanks!! I will go check and see if there are any tags or anything in it. I don't think there is, but I will check.
I bought the purse at the Coach outlet in Florida 7 months ago, and it just started doing this like, last month. and like I said, it usually sets it off when I go into a store, not out.
and I went to the Coach store at the mall, and it didn't set off that alarm. It's weird.. it only happens at certain stores. Wal Mart all the time though. Maybe it got magnatized somehow or something?

If it just started doing this, it's probably not your bag. It's not just magically going to start to set off alarms ;)

Just a tip- if anyone is still setting off alarms and can't find the tag, you could get it deactivated by placing your bag on one of those alarm deactivating pads by a register. Some stores also have these handheld deactivators and they can zap your bag so it stops.

Two Coach stores can't find anything in the purse and they ran my bags over their anti-magnetizers but it still happens. I buy a new RETAIL one a month and others from the website but no more. Although the ones doing this are from their online outlet when they have that connected to the website (and I always call Coach and verify they are having that sale at that site), I am so upset with the money I have lost that they have lost a customer. It has happened to FIVE of my bags.

It is so embarrassing entering a store and having to yell out when the alarm goes off, "It is my COACH bag!" I hold it up too. It happened at Best Buy, Lowes, and the Birch Run stores. Neither Windsor Crossing or Birch Run could find anything in it but it kept happening. They tried to demagnetize but it still kept doing it when they tried it. Some customers left the Birch Run store. It doesn't happen at retail stores like in the Toronto Eaton Centre. It happens with the ones bought from the Outlet Online when their sales are on. You are best to shop in a store and then it if goes off on your way out just return it on the spot.

Do you have any Coach wallets or small leather goods?

It used to happen to me when I shopped at the outlet stores. It doesn't happen anymore. I think they demagnetize them before you leave the store now. For items I've bought online, there is usually a small magnet inside. Sometimes it is hard to find. Pull the lining out and feel around to make sure it isn't inside the lining. It might be inside your SLGs too, as iNeedCoffee suggested.

I think it must be on the inside of the lining, the side facing the inside of the purse. :(

I did a charge send on a baby bag from an outlet. They didn't demagnetize it before shipping. I set off alarms everywhere. Finally I took it to a boutique and they set it on their pad for a few minutes on each side. That finally did it, I heard the beep it does when it deactivates. The SA said a lot of sensors are sewn inside the bag so people can't remove them.
While it was still happening, I was told that some cell phones set them off too. Hopefully your issue gets resolved!
