I'm EU based and I sold 2 bags in cash buyout and I have 2 in consignment with MAC.
They sent me a prepaid DHL world express label with insurance, although the declared amount they put is 500 for any bag (I guess to avoid a huge customs bill).
The two bags I sold in direct buyout were brand new full set, so they were accepted without issue and I received the promised amount maybe two weeks after I sent them each bag.
One of the bags I have in consignment was initially sent for direct buyout, but they offered me $500 less after evaluating the condition (it's a preowned bag about 10 years old). If I wanted the bag returned to me, I would have to pay the return shipping (like ~100-200). For this one I asked if they could switch to consignment, to which they agreed and it was more interesting for me as the consignment offer was 30% higher than the buyout offer.
The second bag I have in consignment has been there since January, and I'm starting to worry that it won't sell. Contractually if this happens they supposedly take care of the return shipping once the consignment period has run out.

Would love to hear more testimonies about consignment experiences with MAC and the time it took to sell.
only for $500 less & for a used & 10 years old bag, if wasn't a popular style & color, I would took the buyout.

of course would be much higher because wasn't using their money and they are not taking any risks of not sold or returned multiple times, especially if was selling in EU market too. much higher profit for them if sold, they possibly list it at the top of market value.

It's a popular bag & color, although a less popular size. I think the market for big bags is better in the US because people use cars to get around more than in the EU.

In the EU I was getting much lower buyout offers and consignment offers that were the same or lower than MAC's buyout. And the price they are listing it at is roughly the same as the average market price for this style.

We will see. Maybe if it doesn't sell at the end of the consignment period I can switch back to buyout. 🤷🏻‍♀️

EU retail prices for some designer bags are lower than US to begin with, some retail prices differences are significant that's probably one of the reasons why EU buyout or consign prices are lower, also I think EU economy is not very good. right now, market is terrible here in US too, but US market still probably better than other countries.

but we wouldn't know what's future is like, especially on bags etc, but I would not take risks in current market, because not just market is bad, also the designer brands are pushing out their own new collections 10x times of the speed if not faster compare to used to be to compete with resellers and resale market, because with shrinking market and disappearing huge middle class & huge Asian market, they needs to push out new bags at much fast speed to get money from the richer.

on resale, we just never known, how knows, it could sell in seconds at the highest price, we never known.

Has your two bags in consignment sold yet and how long did it take for them to sell those in consignment? currently considering consigning with them too

I just sent one of my bag and hope the consignment will be smooth. First time selling with them, I always use Fashionphile both buying and selling before and happy with the outcomes. Giving try Madison since they offer higher this time. Finger crossed .
may i ask how long they took to sell your handbag?
