Screw backs- am I just stupid?

All my diamond earrings have screw back and they are easy to wear once you get hang of it and unlike the butterfly backs these will never get lost .Just see that it is properly fit close to your ears ,the back will never unscrew itself .

Unfortunately I have lost a screw back so I know for a fact they will occasionally unscrew themselves. Mine were very large so I had a little plastic disc in the back to keep them upright. I think that and the fact that I wore earmuffs also played a role in how it came unscrewed. :(

Hehe, when I put on my screwback earrings.. I know they're pretty much not going to come out of my ears for the next few weeks. They are a huge pain, but I do like the extra security. It also gets easier with practice.
(FYI I'm the type of person that keeps in stud earrings day and night.. I don't take them out every night to sleep.)

Wow! I thought I was the only "lazy" one when it comes to solitaire screwbacks. Once they're on...they're on for a few days. I even sleep in them because by the time I get into bed, lay down, and remember they're on...I'd rather wiggle my head around a bit to get comfy than get up and unscrew.

I hold the back steady and twist the diamond against the hole it until it "grabs".

I think their are different size posts. I have the Tiffany DBTY earrings with screw-ons and I do not have a problem with them stabbing me like I do with some other ones I have. I also must say that once I have them in, I only take them out for cleaning. I do find myself checking them several times a day. But, as far as your original question, there was definitely a learning curve ;)

I didn't know that some screwbacks can be pushed in, I will have to check mine. It drove me crazy the first couple of times, then I figured out that it was easier for me to keep the diamond still, and turn the back instead of the other way.
