That's so interesting eternal! When I was young I would wear lots of saturated jewel tones and black and had lots of scarves in bright emerald, vibrant red, bright purple, etc. Now I tend to opt for burgundy or russet over red, olive shades over emerald, peach over fuchsia, navy over royal blue etc...so sort of your opposite!
The connection between age and colour is often very subtle. I accompanied my father-in-law to his hometown in China, and one of the relatives eyed me strangely and remarked: "You like bright colours, don't you?" I thought that was very odd until FIL explained that in their part of China, only the very young and the very old wear brights. And it was true - most of the (very) extended family was in drab and neutral, while I was in tomato red and cornflower blue.

Sisters on this. Although it is France, it does have an Asian feel with the trees.
