Sparkles, are you really sure you don't want to give hippos a chance? Did you ever read about Jessica the Hippo which a S. African game ranger & his wife adopted from infancy (she lost her mother in a storm). She's adorable. Sleeps with the family's dogs with a blanket over her back, has the run of their house, listens to classical music in the afternoon with the wife, super intelligent, loves to eat, what's not to love?

Why aren't hippos (and endangered rhinos) on H scarves?

Hahhaaa....I have love for most creatures but do you know that more humans are killed by hippos than any other animal in Africa including snakes? Yep yep yep---mean and chubby! But a baby hippo is precious.

I think being killed by a leopard, a lion, a gator, a hyena, an African wild dog, or being charged and crushed to death by an elephant hurts just as much as being killed by a hippo.

Because hippos snarf down grass like crazy (no dieting ever) rivers which have hippos also have lots of fish. That said, male hippos are extremely territorial because they have to protect the lady hippos and the lady hippos have to protect their calves. So, having hippos around is complicated, need to give them a wide berth. Also, hippos don't see well and when they are startled they run like crazy to the safety of the river. So, people have to be real careful when on trails traversed by hippos.

But the population of hippos has hugely decreased from say what it was 50 years ago b/c hippo tusks are a form of ivory and b/c hippo meat is delicious. And hippo pods are a big tourist draw. So IMHO, it's better to try to co-exist with hippos than to write them off.

And H should put hippos (or a hippo) and rhinos (or a rhino) on their scarves. Stick them in the background, whatever, to fully depict African wildlife in all its diversity. If I want lions and tigers I'll buy Ferragamo scarves.

Silkies,

Our new Mistress will unveil her identity in four days! Do you think you know who she is???

Here is another clue: She is quite an eclectic combination of fabulous (my words). For fun, she competes with one of her dogs in "Barn Hunt," where they search over and under hay bales for live rats in plastic tubes!

What the heck, huh? But the rats are not harmed otherwise I would have had her banned from the thread. :giggles: If you only knew what phenomenal animals pet rats were---they are so smart and social! But that is another story.....

I am guessing momasaurus :smile1:

You look beautiful in the big, green Tigre.

I'm enjoying autumn color week a lot. I have a lot of brown and taupe scarves so they're probably going to float over into feather week.

Yesterday wearing Ex Libris en Camo out to dinner with DH.

And today wearing Skyros. After all the abuse I've heaped on it recently, I thought I'd attempt to salvage it's reputation. It does okay with white and teal tops only, so I'm pairing a teal blouse with brown skirt and heels. I tried MYH's variation on a scarf necklace to highlight the pale greens and teals and hide the olive green border, and I vastly prefer it now to what I had been doing. Thanks MYH!

Also carrying another seldom worn purchase, the Rouge H 36 Garden Party. So big and bulky I rarely carry it, but still love the color.
