Many thanks to
@Cookiefiend for hosting last week's Pink and Orange Week. Thank you
@Karenska for such a beautiful introduction to Ghost Stories Week illustrated with stunning scarves.
My scarves this week will be illustrating an old cowboy ghost story originally written as a song by Stan Jones in the late 1940s and has been recorded by many musicians. However, my favorite version is sung by the Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash. Ghost Riders in the Sky tells the story of an old cowboy who goes out for a ride and sees the ghosts of cowboys past chasing the devil's herd of steers for the rest of eternity. He is warned that this is his fate unless he changes his ways. A scary thought indeed.

Below are the lyrics to the song.
Ghost Riders in the Sky
An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
A-plowing through the ragged sky
And up a cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny, their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders coming hard
Heard their mournful cries
Yippie-yi-o (yippie-yi-o)
Yippie-yi-yay (yippie-yi-yay)
Ghost riders in the sky
Their faces gaunt
Their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He's riding hard to catch that herd but he ain't caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire
As they ride on hear their cries
As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name
'If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride'
Trying to catch the devil's herd
Across these endless skies
Yippie-yi-o (yippie-yi-o)
Yippie-yi-yay (yippie-yi-yay)
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost riders in the sky
My first scarf of Ghost Week sets the scene with cowboys riding and chasing a herd of mustangs. It is also my transition scarf from Orange Week, and is especially appropriate for Halloween. Introducing my Hermes box orange Dallas 2004 special edition of Les Mustangs.
