Good evening everyone! First, thank you @bunnycat for last week's theme. Great job and so fun to see all the selections.

Aaaand thank you @Cookiefiend for a great introduction. My first justification for my H profligacy in 2020-2021 (so far) was that all the $$$ not spent on hair, facials, Pilates, etc... was now available as discretionary funds for...SCARVES! So there was that. I was disciplined though for the most part sticking to my plan to acquire designs by two favorite artists. Then there were the purchases that fell under "lucky finds"-- the first of which is posted here. I am not necessarily looking for the "lucky find" but when I see it my fickle finger just can't stay within the budget lines and off I go. In 2021 I have bought four of these. This category is a close cousin of the "target of opportunity" purchase-- ie a scarf on my wish list that suddenly appears at a reasonable price. Have to do it, right? After all it is ON THE LIST. Basically, though, I just bought a ton of scarves. Who am I kidding? If you keep your wish list nice and long, you always have a justification seems to be my buying strategy. So here are one Lucky Find and one Target of Opportunity:
Lucky Find is Rocaille II Detail, which reminds me of a Sailor's Valentine) and Target of Opp is La Promenade de Longchamps:

Both are beauties. Indeed! The List!
That first lovely tie, how did you do please?

Twins on this one - and to help reducing any possible guilt feelings - I paid retail and a half for this one too, just HAD to have it - it matched my H Shogun bag in Rouge H, so there you go:smile:

Yay! It’s a great one for sure.

Well I’ll share one (of the many) from this year. This was a total FOMO too in a delayed reaction kind of way. I must’ve been asleep for this season to have missed this one. Then suddenly it was everywhere, two friends had it, in this cw too. Suddenly I couldn’t rest till it was mine, but the resale prices were nuts! Ahem, especially given I’d already acquired several others. :graucho: The law of averaging was not in my favor.

Then lo & behold I asked a friend’s kind SA to see if he could find me one. This leads to the If It’s Meant To Be You Must Buy It theorem. Lucky me, he found me one. So naturally it was meant to be mine and I bought it!

27 Jun 2021 FOMO & Sales Goggles: A look back at Impulse buys, bargains and Must Buys in the first 6 months

Good morning Scarflandia!

Welp - this is a week meant for me… The Queen of Sales Googles, The Queen Bee of Impulse Purchases, The One Who Can’t Resist :borg:, The Boss of Oh It’s on SALE, Why Didn’t You Say So!!!

Gosh, I’ve been busy this year… and we’re just 6 months in! My credit card has taken to hiding under the bed, scarves are falling out of the closet, and the mail delivery people and I are on a first name basis. :giggle:

Sales Goggles - just in case no one has heard me blather about them - are firmly attached to my noggin at all times - Me Oh My how I LOVE a ‘bargain’!
View attachment 5121675
Though we all know an H ‘bargain’ is because I applied H Math.
Wait - maybe you don’t know about H Math?!?

Ahhhh… pull up a seat Grasshoppers.

H Math is an art. It’s when you rationalize your way to a new scarf.
So for example - my Amazone. I had wanted this scarf for ages, it reminds me of the Anime movies I watched with my youngest son… I had to have it. When I found it, I pounced on it even though it was an outrageous price - and the only scarf I have paid over retail for. Then I found another one for a song (of course I did :noggin: ), and I bought it too. H Math allowed me to average the cost of the two together and SHAZAM - it was a bargain! TA DA!!

(Like a story problem, except that the answer wasn’t a Purple Hat [my usual answer to story problems], but 2 lovely scarves!)
View attachment 5121677
Or perhaps you’ve found the Vintage Scarf of Your Dreams, but zomg... the price. Great Googly Moogly. But H Math comes to the rescue, because -gosh - I’d pay this much for a new scarf in the boutique, and this Beauty I’ve Been Waiting For is just a bit more... I’ll take it!

(Then you run off hissing My Precious to yourself)
View attachment 5121678

But, we’re talking about this year, 2021, and as I stated earlier - I have been a bizzy bizzy Cookie! In January, I found a lovely scroll jacquard - Le Cle des Champs.
View attachment 5121676
So, what have y’all been up to?
Love your sales googles! :) If only.....

Fabulous intro Cookie!

I too have a PhD in H Math! Isn’t it wonderful? The “Cost per Wear” formula beats the Pythagorean Theorem any day.

I have been SO bad this year. I’m learning from you on sticking to retail or below NOW but…. Also H math allows for the given that “retail” means current retail bien sûr, not retail at the time the design in question came out. Let us be clear.

So I’ll probably be sharing a lot this week given my recent naughtiness, but let’s start with two early ones.

First: The Must Buy. The one I had to have immediately. As in clicking refresh at h.com in the car on July 3rd on the way to the Jersey shore because new season was coming out “imminently.” So help me he was online 2 nanoseconds before I scooped him up. Happy to report he’s still my favorite…

And secondly, the Mother of all FOMOs.

Early in my H journey, while the fever was at its peak and before I’d become studied in H math, I paid twice retail for this. Yes folks that’s right. $800 big ones. :whut:

Needless to say, this caused such waves of guilt that I bought nothing else, not even a stick of gum, for six months. So a) helped average out total spending.:tup:
B) this is where the cost per wear formula factors in because it is SO wearable! But yeah, lesson learned.View attachment 5121723View attachment 5121724View attachment 5121725View attachment 5121726View attachment 5121727
@Pirula the scarves are undeniable beauties but I just love your hilarious stories the most!
Before we leave MAN week, here are three of them today: Les trois Mousquetaires View attachment 5121738
So great. I love that scarf ring!
Thank you for introducing this week, Cookie!
Le clé des champs was also one of my impulse buys this year, and the most impulsive one was Parade de Leonhard, which I bought when waiting the compulsory 15 minutes after my COVID Vaccine. 15 minutes well spent, in all regards…

Pirula and Karenska, I totally agree re colourway of your Tyger Tyger. fabulous! And understand the ELEK dilemma, I guess I was lucky with exactly this one 2 years ago due to a pulled thread (I had difficulty finding, actually).

gorgeous look, Moma!
@Agrume, best spent fifteen minutes in scarfdom!
Thank you for the wonderful introduction to FOMO week, Cookie.

The year was less than ten hours old when I came upon Les Toits de Paris for sale from a reputable seller in excellent condition in my favorite colorway. I found it because I had been checking obsessively and it finally paid off. The price was higher than any other 90 that I have purchased, but I did my own H math. The cost was still far less than three other Hermes scarves going for well under retail. Surely I could pass on three lesser scarves to afford this one? So I clicked Buy, and I have not regretted this purchase at all. I have not seen this scarf come along for anything less, and I have indeed passed on more than three lesser scarves. In fact, I have passed on so many other Hermes scarves that I'm probably money ahead. :smartass:

View attachment 5121861
I would totally have done it also @Redbirdhermes. Love this combo!
I swore off moussies, not because they aren’t special and absolutely gorgeous, but because I didn’t think I would wear them much. But when I saw @Living.la.vida.fifi’s recent acquisition in a purple/lime cw and then I found this darling on ebay for a very fair price, I had to have it, figuring I’ll wear it a few times a year. Le Monde Est Vaste in luscious fuscias, melons and lilacs ❤:hbeat::hbeat::hbeat:. I hope to wear it soon. View attachment 5121891View attachment 5121892View attachment 5121890
I never had this design on my radar but it is spectacular in this color and format @Karenska!
Beauty!! So I have an opposite rationalization to keep me in check. I say to myself, it’s an older scarf so I shouldn’t have to pay so much for it! Don’t do it. Just wait for luck! Haha. It works most of the time to not buy on reseller market. Phew. But the bug got me on several that I paid over for :cursing:
Wayyyy too hot here to contribute scarf wearing pics, but I can contribute my stats/thoughts on sale goggles and h math. I apparently have paid $80-100 over on my La danse gav, my pastel Into the Canadian Wild, one of my ex libris kimonos, my pink/green Parures de Samourais, my white L’ombre des pivoines ( I haven’t worn!! :-/)

But my H math tells me that I saved sooooo much money on so many other scarves that it all balances out :graucho:. Like two 140’s in great shape for $300-400. Those were my sale goggles lol. I couldn’t NOT buy them at that cost!!!!! My gavs for only $80-100. My 90’s for $100. But I will also say I have bought some with ‘oh my I have never seen this come up that often, I think I HAVE to get it at this reasonable price’ goggles on! n I haven’t Worn them and am not sure I will wear:facepalm: like this…
View attachment 5122075
This totally is evocative of Chaucer @Nomad. Also you should be fast-tracked to Honors H Math…
I think you've justified it under Cost Per Wear! My anthracite MP was bought using the same H maths and law of averages as @Cookiefiend used for Amazones. My first was almost double retail but I really wanted it, there were fakes and this was a trusted reseller, and the reseller price at that point in time was generally double or more. Then about a year later, I found one that was less than half retail. No one else bid on it because I'm sure everyone thought it was a fake. By that time, I knew I wanted a 2nd piece because the first piece proved so versatile that it had become part of my travel kit. I have back-ups of all my 3 travel kit choices.
@xincinsin it is gorgeous and you even have a backup!
Thanks so much. The details are just amazing.

It is so beautiful. Thanks!

Thank you, Agrume!

That was a great theme. The men's scarves (especially the colors) are often so much better than the women's. The new season items, for sure. I didn't show nearly as many as I have!
We should expand the week for you to show them @momasaurus!
I love your rationale! And the scarves!
LOL @bunnycat the Rationale is a slippery fluid thing that changes as justification demands!
Both are beauties. Indeed! The List!

Yay! It’s a great one for sure.
Thank you so much @Pirula! The first tie is from Mai Tai scarf art. Asymmetrical wrap with ends secured in a crisis cross knot with a grande scarf ring and ends pulled long so bib is shorter. My go to knot source!

I would love this one also in red OR yellow…cute stylings!

Here’s my example (and it is really recent) of an obsessive “have to find one” design totally tPF induced madness. I contacted a reseller who had a different cw and inquired if she had others. This ensued. Paid more than my rule of retail plus 10% if condition and color warrant for a coveted design (I have different math for grails). This was Impulse plus Insanity plus Availability=Scarf Mail.

Today we’ll go into FOMO - briefly touched upon by our dear @Pirula ❤️

Thanks so much! This might be a ring from MaiTai or maybe Etsy. I don't keep track of ring purchases~!
As for showing more MAN scarves - I don't totally understand this week's theme, so I may "adapt."

These are gorgeous. That madras is the cutest thing ever and you always look so happy when you wear it! OK, I'm confused. I thought FOMO was when you suddenly want a scarf because everyone else wants it, and you are afraid of missing out on having "that thing."
I can proudly say that I have cured myself of that particular bug! (The cure didn't come cheap, though.)

Thank you! Wow look at that! Thanks for sharing!
We’re shooting Venice for my birthday in January. We shall see.

Beautiful!

Thank you, I hope you can go to Venice in January! There must be a very special atmosphere in winter with mist over the lagoon and sometimes even Aqua Alta.

This is both a marvellous design and a particularly beautiful cw. It‘s super versatile, wearable and looks great even worn casually with jeans.

Oh yes, it‘s definitely been waiting for you! This suits you perfectly.

Well then, now that our scarf mistress has introduced the principle of FOMOFSIS, I confess I have one too. Also from this year.

Wanted the black, settled for the orange and I love it!

This is a very dangerous post for me! We have a similar colouring - although your hair is a bit darker than mine - and when a scarf looks good on you, there is a high chance of it looking good on me too. And this is marvellous on you! I just love the colours of this scarf.

I too am guilty of doing H math. Because there are real world prices - „Do they really want 4 Euros for a cappuccino? Now that‘s greedy!“ - and Hermès world prices - „This CSGM is just 600 Euros, now that is a bargain, I can‘t let it go!“

So when I saw Le Jardin de la Maharani for 550 Euros on eBay in „my“ cw I couldn‘t possibly pass it up. Now it came with me to Venice where it was much too warm to wear it but it worked well during the evening in the Berici hills around Vicenza.

And, just because I love it so much, Palladio‘s Villa La Rotonda which I visited yesterday.
