My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Striking!

This is a truly a dream, turfnsurf!

When I opened the box for this scarf, it brought home to me exactly why sellers warn that the colour you see on your screen may not be the true colour of the scarf. I truly :faint: when the ultraviolet of this Mosaique gave me an instant suntan. I put it aside as a mistake and didn't look at it again until the very purple Temari got me more comfortable with ultraviolet.

It looks lovely here, but I do get what you mean when what turns up is not quite what you were expecting...

I like purple but it doesn’t like me, hence I have little to contribute on theme this week, but thoroughly enjoying all your lovelies, safe in the knowledge I can’t be tempted by any of them because they wouldn’t be nearly so lovely on me.

I hear you, paula24jen. Except one, all my scarves this week only have purple as an accent.

I have the same philosophy now. When I first discovered H scarves and this forum, every lovely pic sent me into "I Gotta Get This" mode. Now I am (slightly) more rational

Over forty years ago I was a college student spending a semester abroad studying in Vienna. Several nights a week I would head over to either the Staatsoper or Volksoper to get a cheap standing room ticket for that night’s opera. I’m positive that I have seen at least 6 of the 8 operas listed in my SOTD, Fleurs de L’Opera, and who knows, maybe all of them. I figured this was a unique opportunity to get an education in opera, something that was missing from my upbringing in the rural Midwestern United States. My most memorable treat was seeing Wagner’s entire Der Ring des Nibelungen over a four week period.

I have been wanting a beautiful purple scarf since I began collecting Hermes scarves, which is why I finally decided on this colorway for Fleurs de L’Opera. I’m delighted to debut it here during Purple Week.

Stunning. And a lovely story. I loved Vienna when I visited it years ago, not the least the two famous opera houses, where I saw several works.
