My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

OT wearing Noël au FBG CSPM today

another beautiful Noel!
Today we will be looking at some of the aircraft on Reves D'espace. Indeed, it was all the airplanes flying around the scarf that initially caught my eye. There are folks who would be able to immediately identify all of these aircraft, but I am not one of those people. Nevertheless, I was able to identify a few of the planes. Feel free to add to the list if you recognize others.

The glider at the very top of the scarf is a Lilienthal hang glider (c. 1896). Otto Lilienthal was one of the first people to fly successfully with winged flying machines. During the 1890s people flocked to see his short flights.

Looking inside the red and green ring we see a large twinjet aircraft located at the 1 o'clock position. This is the Airbus A330 which was produced by Airbus, an aircraft company located in Toulouse, France. The first flight of this plane was November 2, 1992, so it would represent the latest French commercial plane in this 1993 Hermes scarf.

Moving around the ring at the 4 o'clock position, we see a long triangle shaped plane. This is the Concorde, a British-French supersonic passenger airliner that operated from 1969 until 2003. I remember seeing my first Concorde parked at Paris Orly Airport when I was a college student studying abroad. Unfortunately, I never got to ride in this plane.

Below the Concorde at the 5 o'clock position is the Space Shuttle. This was a partially reusable low Earth orbital spacecraft operated from 1981 to 2011 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as part of the Space Shuttle program.

In preparation for my FAA pilot exams I used video training courses from King Schools. At the end of each taped lesson, the instructor would admonish the student pilot to "Stay out of the trees!". My scarf of the day contains these trees, fortunately with no planes hanging in them! Can you tell me where these trees are located??

wow such wonderful posts yesterday and today. I remember the first time I saw the Concorde as well. ( never flew on it though). This is definitely the perfect scarf for you!
Thank you!
And you are indeed correct - it is Quai aux Fleurs! Your prize is a rambunctious smooch from Coco!

couldn’t remember the name of this one, but what a beautiful treasure!
Yesterdays scarf was Kachinas giant triangle (hello to all my twins! ) for this week's theme:

everyone’s kachinas have been so beautiful!
Hugo Grygkar designed the first Hermès carré, 'Jeu de Omnibus et Dames blanches'. From the Hermès scarf booklet, “the name of 'Dames Blanches', or white ladies, was bestowed on the two-compartment public omnibus that plied the Madeleine-Bastille run in Paris...”
The Italian artist Gianpaolo Pagni used the design to create my SOTD, Jeu des Omnibus Remix. From The Story Behind, Signor Pagni “loves to appropriate old documents, reinventing their appearance and story in a light-hearted way through the use of stamps. He took great pleasure with this exercise using Jeu des omnibus et dames blanches as his basis. Originally intended as a board game, this watercolour holds a special place in the history of Hermès. Hung on the office wall of Émile Hermès, the grandson of the house’s founder, and today conserved in his collection, in 1937 it inspired the very first Hermès silk scarf. What was the origin of this game? The new omnibus lines, which appeared in the 1820s, and whose horse-drawn vehicles encircle the central medallion. The players placed their bets, then wooden balls were selected from a bag to reveal the winning number.” @Foxy trini , hello, sister!

Think this is my favorite CW of this design.

AMAZING!!
I had NO idea these aircrafts were on this scarf! We sometimes see a man (there's a tiny private airport near us) flying on some sort of contraption (I know I should google what it is, but haven't yet), so it is fascinating to see the Lilienthal hang glider on this scarf!
Well sleuthed!!

As for your mystery scarf - is it Joies d'Hiver?
(I see the beautiful skaters jacquard )

Thank you, Cookie. Your local aviator is probably flying an ultralight vehicle. The FAA does not regulate these as long as there is only one seat, and there are a few other conditions (such as, maximum empty weight of 254 lbs, maximum speed of 55 knots, and fuel tank no larger than 5 gallons). Still, some flight training is highly recommended, and that is why they build two seater versions, which do require a pilot's license. Personally, I like a bit more airplane around me.

You are welcome, Croisette. My scarf is Joies d'Hiver. Lovely photo of your scarf showing the trees.

Great posts, today and yesterday, RBH. The identification of the aircrafts is delightful! I am extremely intrigued by your SOTD and can’t wait to find out what it is. The jacquard design is stunning. :faint:

What a wonderful dissertation, RBH, and your ensemble, including the astrolabe pendant, is lovely. Bold, bright and beautifully coordinated.

Thank you, Karenska. I'm planning on more tomorrow.

Wonderful post!
I agree with @Croisette7’s guess

Thank you, turfnsurf. Of course, you are correct.

Thank you, scarf. I am having more fun with this design than I expected when I began. I am beginning to realize how many aircraft on this scarf have been retired since 1993, including the Concorde. That was a very special airplane.

OMG! :faint: :hbeat: :hugs::girlsigh:. She is so precious. How you must adore her, Cookiefiend. And look at you, all ready for the hols!:tup::tup: That is just too good. I am envious because I am decorating slower than the preverbial snail:giggle:.
❤️❤️❤️
I do love her!
I usually don’t decorate until the first Saturday of December... this year I started before Thanksgiving. I... needed the color and happiness that the holiday decorations give me. The tree has been on all day today - it’s a dreary gray day, but my tree is cheerful!

That is exactly what he is flying! The first time I saw him, I couldn’t figure out what it was - a weird kite? Mr Cookie had to tell me what it was, and then said “You *really* do need new glasses” after giving me one of those exasperated husband looks.
Im with you though - more plane around me please!

I thought I had seen something up thread that tied Zoe to Grygkar (?) but I can’t find it now... I am trying to be on theme this week, but not succeeding very well!
You guys! These pics are amazing. I love this design.
Both beautifully tied!

Wow! I was away for a week and came back to over 30 pages of catch-up!
Cookie....loved your intro!
