Scared to use Ebay?

I have a tough time trusting sites on-line...so many fakes...let alone Ebay...I always buy new but now I'm on the selling end...need to unload...just too much stuff and we are going to finally move into our house in June.

Fayden is having problems with her most recent auction on eBay. After reading her thread http://www.purseforum.com/general-discussion/i-am-really-pissed-off-7018.html?highlight=pissed, I am also reluctant about posting my unwanted bags on eBay. Oh, here is a link to recent eBay scam featured in a local news site: http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060307/Lives06/603070493/-1/Lives/CAT=Lives06

Quite frankly, the money I would probably get for my unwanted bags is not worth losing my sanity over.

I wish I had friends who were really into authentic, high-end designer bags like I do or I would host a "Purse Party." You know, at the end of each season, gather all your friends and ask them to bring their unwanted bags and you trade or sell your bags at common area (usually the hostess' house). Just a thought.

But--that scam above was an off-ebay transaction. It seems it wasn't the seller who scammed her, but a third party. I've sold a number of purses and also other fashion items from my closet when I've wanted to make room and so far, I've never had a bad transaction (I have been cheated once as a buyer--not because the merchandise (2 skirts) was counterfeit, but because I received junk--not new skirts at all, but rags. (And I've gotten the scam emails described above as well--and ignored them). So far, as a seller, I've been lucky. I even made a new friend from someone who bought a couple things from me about a year ago, who I otherwise would never have met. So, I guess what I'm saying is that I see ebay as a place where nice things can happen, but bad things can happen as well.
