Hi all, not been on here for a while but I would love to know your thoughts.

I purchased an Oak Bayswater from Fenwick's earlier this year. Not used too much but got her out yesterday again and remembered what bothered me when I used her last time.

She has a very saggy bottom!!! Oh er misses....

When I say that, what actually happens is that, the main body (Front and back) of the bag completely collapses when I put her down. This means the base or the bottom becomes hugh if you understand. Like there is no structure at all. I ordered a base shaper which is a hard plastic but that does nothing except lifts in the middle cause there is nothing structured to hold it in place.

Does anyone know what I mean.:thinkin:

It really bugs me and the only way I can think to give it support/structure is if I use it for work and put files etc in. But to be honest I am even considering selling it as I can't use it like this it's driving me mad....

Any ideas if it is supposed to be this slouchy and are other peoples like this and what do you do???

I can put on some pictures tomorrow when the light is brighter if needs be.:p

Hi Tarababe

Perhaps you are looking for some Johnny's Bottoms?

Oh dear poor saggy bottom! I actually lovd a saggy bottom. I love his I pug it down & melts into a leather puddle! But obvs that doesn't help you. I know a lot of ladies on here buy bag liners from eBay or amazon. There is a link on here somewhere. I will try & find it. It may also help to keep the bag stuffed with tissue when not in used to keep it sitting firm. :)

Hi Tarababe,

I have a similar issue with my gunmetal bayswater made in soft tumbled leather. This poor bag believes itself to be a puddle at every possible opportunity and as you rightly point out a baseshaper does very little for these spineless members of our bag collections.
To try to resolve the issue I've comissioned the long suffering Johnny to create a base with spinal board......it is still in the prototype stage, so I'll keep you posted on design progress.
In the meanwhile, the only other thing to try would be a bag organiser....there are several manufacturers out there including Tintamar, and these from an Etsy seller... http://www.etsy.com/shop/samorga

:smile1:

I don't have a saggy bottom on my new Bays but am looking for a base shaper to stop it from happening so I would be grateful for any responses to this. I bought a base shaper from ebay and it doesn't seem to fit. Anyone know the measurements of theirs?

I had mine made to my measurements by this etsy seller:

For my bays, I asked for 36cm length, by 10cm wide and this is perfect for me, but i'd recommend measuring the inside base of your bag,as they all vary slightly

Oh mo this made me laugh. A spinal board! Serious business though & no laughing matter but I did have a chuckle. Good old johnny!!

Thanks. This is what they have sent me but I think mine should be 35cm by 9cm which I have got back with them about. This may sound stupid but is it supposed to wedge in between the stitching at the bottom? It currently just lies loose and I don't see the point in this.

Peanut, thank you, it is exactly like this that I have but it doesn't solve the problem at all, just doesn't stay in place cause of the front and back collapsing...:thinkin:

Mooshooshoo, you know exactly what I mean. Not sure re the "Spinal Board" route....:faint:

I have had Tantimar liners in the past, but I honestly don't think that will help thinking about it. Oh my, maybe nothing will. I feel I need something that attaches to the straps inside to hold the body up and add support.:thinkin:

Not sure how good they are as mine was made for a Bayswater and although fits, make no difference. Strange as my LV speedy base shaper works like a dream, but then again she does't have saggy sides.

And one of the plastic base shaper. Not very clear but the shaper just gets pushed up in the middle due to the rest of the bag collapsing around it.

Same here with my LV Neverfull, perfect fit but then again it isn't leather like the Bays.

I think your best stuffing it when not in use and maybe using a liner when using. I don't think the base shaper actually help IMO.

Thank's Steph. Think I will see what it's like to use for work with A4 size files and my small computer. If it still annoys me I may have to think of parting company......Oh, and get another LV maybe....:graucho:

Ok here are some pictures to explain.

Mine is even more "puddly" than this....and no base shaper is ever going to make these leathers stand up. A base shaper is simply designed to support the bottom....not the rest of the bag.

With the design of the LVs which aren't leather like Mulberrys, a stiffened base can be jammed into the bottom forcing the sides to remain upright....as the Mulberry leathers are so soft, using a base in such a way would not only rip or at least stretch the leather, but would still not make the leather stiffer!

The only thing to do is keep bags fully stuffed whenever not in use, use a liner when in use (+/- base) and try not to fall in love with soft, supple, scrumptious, puddly leather....:giggles:
