Ruthenium Hardware peeling?

Respectfully, I understand your perspective, however, "this" gorgeous Emerald Green Lambskin (if I am not mistaken?) Boy Bag is brand-new! The peeling of aged rheuthinium, that I would bet almost everyone on this forum would be shocked to see, is not "normal wear and tear". Stacy31 should never tolerate this type of defect, more like "radical phenomenon", and I am thrilled to hear that her SA has found her a replacement.

Stacy31: Do keep us posted on the outcome of your replacement. The gorgeous color of your le Boy seems quite rare, I wonder if it is in anyway associated with this "color lot", so to speak?

I am afraid I did not express precisely what I wanted to express because English is not one of my native languages. Of course this is very upsetting thing to happen to a new bag. If it is within warranty, and is possible, I would also want a replacement. I'm glad that OP will be able to receive a new handbag. What I was trying to say is that I know some owners of luxury items that have exchanged their things and ended up not using them for the fear of "ruining" their new items which they like very much. I know people who have things with tags still attached sitting in their clothets, not being used for the fear of developing ware and tare. I was trying to express for people not to get discouraged with using their items because of negative experience with defective item or normal ware and tear. I hope I am more articulate this time as I sometimes feel I am trying to express one thing, but people understand it with totally different meaning.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, this bag is new and this is only the second time I wore it! I am sending it back on Monday and my SA has a new one on its way...I should have it this week. Fingers crossed it is in better condition. On a positive note, I have several other bags with RHW that do not have this defect and that are over 2 years old:)

I appreciate your feedback, but I would NEVER keep a bag with this defect that was about one month old. While wear and tear is inevitable, a bag at this price point should not be peeling and have a company defect that was not caused by me. If the lambskin ages, or gold wears off after years of use, that's one thing. But it is unacceptable to have an almost $5000 bag peeling after two uses:( I do agree that we should not be afraid to use our items and I "lovingly" use and wear all of my bags to justify the cost per wear:smile::smile:

Om goodness just saw your photos. I am another one who didn't realise it was coating, I have bags with both the standard rhw and the new shiny rhw. I thought the standard was bulletproof and great for everyday. So so glad that they found a replacement for you, and the fact that so many here were not aware means that this is not common/ doesn't happen often. Enjoy this amazing bag in this great colour when it arrives - it will be worth the wait!

Oh wow, I did not know this either! On the same boat as everyone else here. So sorry about the defect and glad to hear you will be getting a replacement. Thank you for sharing this though. I recently got a bag with shiny champagne GHW and I worried about scratching/chipping it so much i even considered selling it and waiting for a RHW cuz i thought it would be more durable! Enjoy your new boy and hope it arrives in pristine condition [emoji4]

Omg...what a nightmare!! Thanks for sharing as I also didn't know it was also just coated on, although I'm sad this happened to your gorgeous bag! I'm so glad they got it sorted for you though - clearly and completely unacceptable for this to have happened. Hopefully the clasp was just a "lemon" and that peeling isn't the norm.

Thanks for your comments!! The SAs were shocked as well and told me they had never seen this before. In a way, it may turn out to be a mixed blessing because now I am not going to buy RHW just because it's "so durable" or be so afraid of the gold chipping or the silver tarnishing...I will buy what I love because none of the hardware is perfect:)

Thank you!! The shiny champagne GHW is probably the most beautiful! I was always a fan of the shiny SHW, but often purchased RHW because I "thought" it was bulletproof....boy was I wrong and from now on, I am going to buy what I love because there is no perfect hardware anymore....

Thank you! I am hoping it was just a lemon as well. I have other RHW bags and so far, no issues!! In a way I am glad that I know it is coated now and can share this information on TPF for those interested in purchasing a bag with RHW:smile:

I also want to mention that this bag was "made in France." While this may not be a big deal to some, I have always loved having bags that were made in France. I can say that this is no longer a requirement for me, as my "made in Italy" bags in general have not had any issues.......

It looks like it was chipped off somehow. It might have been there when you bought it and not realized it. But looking at it I doubt you would not have noticed that! I'm glad your getting a replacement. I'm sure it was a fluke that happened with this bag. But now we know that these are coated and that worries me some...

It started as a "bubble." I thought it was part of a sticker left on and it wouldn't come off. I kept trying to push on "the sticker" at first and it kept bubbling. As soon as I tried to peel the sticker off, the RHW came off with it. I think the problem was the process Chanel uses to coat the hardware. It wasn't done correctly, or hadn't finished the process and it formed a bubble that was eventually going to peel off. Regardless, a bag at this price point should not have had any bubbles on it in the first place. The RHW should have been perfect and the bubbling did go unnoticed until today because it could only be seen from certain angles. If this bag had gotten wet and definitely in the near future, this would have occurred anyway. I was not going to accept a bag with an obvious bubble on it that looked like a sticker either. For almost $5,000, I expect the quality to reflect the price and neither of these defects are acceptable. The RHW definitely worries me now and I am going to be very leery of it in the future.....

I also thought that RHW is the original disstressed silver or something of that nature. I would never believe it if anywone was to tell me that it is a coating on SHW. I am very happy that you will be getting a replacement. I am the person who does not really get too worried about minor flaws and scratches, but it was your issue that made me realize even more that, although expansive, these are just bags, not work of art. They are not meant to be indistructable and should be used and enjoyed. With time they will develop ware and tare that I find to be unique characteristics of each individual bag and I embrace it. Please do not get discouraged, use and enjoy your wonderful boy bag. To me your bag is gorgeous either way.

umm no. completely disagree with this. this is a huge big freakin defect!!! OP paid $4700 + tax for this bag, and it should not be peeling terribly like this. this is not wear and tear, this is a bag that is defective and somehow passed quality control (get with it Chanel! geez!!!). i hear she's rightfully getting a replacement, which is what i would expect from Chanel and no less!!
