rusting on papillon hardware

Oh, that doesn't look good. I'm not sure about rusting but peeling taking place over time does make sense. Can't LV do something about it though? Use a different mix of metals, or whatever else they use, in order to prevent rust?


Does rusting and peeling happen on silver hardware, too? Does anyone know?

I really don't mind if this happens when you use your bag/item a lot. I would be pissed if it just started peeling/rusting for no reason!

There is really nothing LV can do since the hardware is gold plated, and wearing off comes with the plated territory. The only real option would be for them to make the hardware solid gold- and I don't want to think about how much a bag would cost with that option!

They are brass, but then plated in gold.

Loss of gold plating on hardware is normal if you use your bag a lot. But for something that is still very new? Take it back and request that it be replaced.

Yep! And even if they won't replace it, at least have them repair it for you. You should be happy with your bag.

Are you guys sure that the gold hardware is really gold plated?:blink: Didn't know that... well there are 2 kinds of gold hardware, like the zipper on the papillon and cles is the same as on my epi pochette and it has a hue of green in it when compared to the hardware of my mono trotteur, so both are gold plated?!

Oh well and do you know what the silver metal is actually made of and if it's plated?

^^^I think your bag is TOO new to start peeling already unless you use it often. When I got mine, I used it ALL the time and I think it was mainly through the fall/winter months. Like I said before, it doesn't bother me because I get lots of wear out my bags and DO expect wear and tear.

^^ My cles is a year or so old, but I have carried it almost every day since I got it. The hardware on my bags, which are older, looks a lot better.

the hardware looks older than my bag. you'd think we'd not have to worry about tarishing after shedding out a thousand for a bag.
