Rotating bags at a new job; how soon is too soon?!

I usually try to wear the same bag for at least a week so that it doesn't look like I spend all morning trying to match my bag to my outfit. Lol. I try to only rotate a few office friendly bag styles and pick neutral-ish colours so that i dont clash but am not too matchy either. No logos I don't want them to think they are paying me too much!

I personally find it rude when people ask me openly how much i spend on my shoes, bags...etc....I don't buy things with huge logos...etc.. as I don't like monogrammed things anyway, my bags or shoes are usually practical for my use...even though it could be high end....One time, I brought a newly purchased yellow mbmj bag and someone asked me how much it was, and I said AUD350, and she gasped and loudly said, I have never spent that much on a bag before....I didn't know what to say....I did feel abit embarassed, so from then on, I just quickly walk into my office and hide my bags :)

I can understand what OP was worried about. Some workplaces can be quite competitive, again that depends on who the females are in that office. Even males can get nosy like oh she has bought a new bag, that kind of thing. It can get pretty awkward, not to say miserable if singled out for notice.

I've never had negative remarks made to me everyone who gets to no me no I'm bag mad I've started a new job 6 weeks ago it's quite a small family firm the bosses wife carries Zara I never even gave it a thought about taking my Mulberry and Prada bags I put a chair next to my desk on day 1 to sit my bags on. !!

Very glad I found this thread. :)

I recently landed a management job at a prestigious company and have been wondering if/when I should carry my more expensive bags. The feel I've gotten so far is that the women would definitely take notice and that is just not the attention I want right now. I'm also the youngest manager in the department and I don't want people to think that I just spend my money frivolously. (I don't...I save a very long time or have received as gifts for accomplishments.)

I love my bags but at this point, it is just not worth it to me to jeopardize my position. Sad reality but sometimes you can just get the vibe that some people will be jealous or make catty remarks with whatever ammo they have.

Good luck, OP. :)

If your bags aren't all high end and VERY recognizable, I wouldn't worry. Most people don't even pay attention to others' accessories anyway. Those who do, usually are the ones that will appreciate a nice bag and won't think badly of the one carrying it.

We're all different. I have a colleague who owns a canvas bag, that's it. Another one rotates once a week, her bags are PU but very nice looking designs. I rotate 2-5 times a week only for work, they've stopped wondering and just comment on their favorites...I don't mind being the odd one out, at least I look good doing it! :p

I change my bags all of the time. Folks rarely notice. I feel like... I paid for it... I am going to use it. All of my bags are contemporary and kinda low key tho....

I´ve noticed a "pregnancy effect" (like, when one co-worker gets pregnant, after a few weeks to a few months seems to have the same effect on her female colleagues) - as soon as someone starts carrying prettier or more practical things, the other ladies at work take an interest (totally in a nice way), and soon after you can notice them making an effort, too. Sometimes, when interest in a certain piece is acute, we´ll "swap" bags or scarves or wallets for one or two days, so a co-worker can try it out for herself during a workday with her own stuff, and see if she likes it before heading to a shop. This way, two colleagues have fallen in love with Chloè through my Paraty last year, and I fell for a Liebeskind Elina borrowed from a colleague...

Bit like the TPF contagion effect, but in meatspace :-D

A few girls I work with used to fuss everytime they would see that I had a new handbag. I don't think it's anybody else's business what kind of bag you choose to carry, or how many you have. Most of the people I work with are clueless when it comes to handbags, and I work with mostly women lol. There is one woman who always carries a coach bag, she goes to the outlet a few times a year, and one other person has a MK that she always carries. It is fun to watch them when they get a new bag. I also love to bag watch when I go out to eat or to the Mall. I cringed last week when I saw a lady put her very nice(not sure what brand) leather handbag on the uncarpeted floor in a restaurant.

I don't think it should matter, really. As long as you are not breaking any dress code and you are doing well in your job, then nobody should really care. Change bags as often as you want. JMHO.

The OP's bags aren't all designer, the ones that are seem to be the less well-known designers (not LV or Coach with logos all over) and are not all new (she said most were 'beater' bags).

I think people who only use one bag until it falls apart (I used to be one) wouldn't pay much attention to someone else's bags unless she came in with an obviously new, expensive one frequently, and wouldn't even recognize a designer bag unless it was one of the most well-known brands.

Lately I have a couple of new coworkers who do notice and compliment bags (one was very interested in my LV but in a good way) but that has not been the norm there. I usually change every month or two (among a total of 4 or 5) and no one even seemed to notice before.
