I am thinking about upgrading from my omega constellation. Was originally considering a Cartier, but now thinking about a Rolex. I tried on the Lady Datejust (TT with everose), fluted dial with diamond markers (though I kinda liked the smooth bezel too) with the jubilee bracelet; however, I'm concerned that the bracelet would be a dead giveaway that I'm wearing a rolex. Don't want to be afraid to wear my watch on the streets of NYC or on the bus or subway since I would like this to be my everyday watch. Do any of you rolex wearers share the same concerns and, if yes, how do you deal with them?

I used to worry about this with my runway LVs, then my Hermes and then it occurred to me that there are so many fakes floating around out there, the chances of anybody thinking what I have is real are slim, unless I'm in neighborhoods where the difference is known. Wear it and enjoy. Just pay attention to your surroundings.

Me too & I totally agree with this

If you're going to be in a neighborhood/area where mugging is a true concern, don't wear your good stuff. Simply moving through a city on public transportation does not make you any more of a target than anyone else.

plus i have the oyster bracelet and a smooth bezel, most people that arent that familiar with rolex don't even know i have a rolex. haha.

It's a different scenario of course if you're going to be walking round weird neighbourhoods alone at night. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm in a big city during the day and I always hold onto my bag properly, or in your case, you're very aware of your watch, then you should be fine. If I'm going somewhere where mugging is more likely, then I'll take a high street bag.

Lets face it though, muggers often don't see a designer watch/handbag, they just see something that they can sell on, and any handbag could contain credit cards/phones/iPods so you could argue that you're at the same risk.

This is so true & when I go up to London my Mum always worries about me because I always wear one of my expensive watches & an expensive hand bag but I told her that most people shopping in London are wearing the same sort of stuff but she still worries but I think Mums always worry but I sort of see the point she's making.

Just be careful & try not to flash it off & I think you'd be fine :smile1:

I agree. If I'm ever going to be in an area where crime is a concern (which isn't often -- thank goodness), I just leave my expensive stuff at home. I wear a cheaper watch, take off my diamond ring and wear a simple gold band, wear smaller diamond studs, and carry one of my Longchamp bags.

I don't wear my Rolexes when traveling by plane; too afraid it won't show up on the other side of the X-ray machine, when t is crowded and crazy maybe someone in line behind me can take it (maybe I am being too paranoid, though)

Thanks for everyones' feedback. The above quote is one of the reasons i'm leary about getting a rolex, especially now that summer's coming and I will not be wearing a jacket outside. Need to think this one through a bit more. Would really love a high-end watch like that...just don't want to feel paranoid about wearing it or arousing jealously from others who actually know what it is (those with high-end bags understand that, I'm sure). Maybe I can find a pre-certified one in great condition.

i always try to be aware of my surroundings. yesterday i had to turn my pendant around, pull down my sleeves over my watch, and turn my e-ring as i was walking through a sketchy neighborhood.

This sounds like me, I do always take a high end watch with me but I make DH go through first to get my belongings & I usually put them in the zipped pocket inside my bag.

this is what I do when traveling, somewhere in between the check-in counter and the security line I take off my watch and put it in the inside pouch of my handbag, zipped up.

I watch my stuff like a hawk when it's on the belt (you will NEVER see me walk through the scanner until my stuff is going through the x-ray, people behind me can b**ch and moan all they want...) and the first thing I do when I retrieve my bag before walking away is make sure my watch is still there.

so far, so good.

I've had my Rolex for almost 4 years now, and I never take it off when going through airport security. It's never set off any alarms. Maybe because it's stainless steel?
