Rolex shortage?

I walked in to a Rolex AD in Singapore last year November and gotten my first Rolex watch this year July! My SA was really friendly and spent an hour plus educating me on Rolex's history as well as letting me try-on many different watches. It was an awesome experience shopping at Rolex. I have listed another interest and hope that I will get it by next year.

I’ll throw in my experience here. I have some buying history at an ad. (Just two non sport Rolexes from 6 years ago.) Visited earlier this year and was basically given the brush off. Went elsewhere but same chain of dealer and talked to an sa who was professional and polite. Gave the sa my wishlist. About four months later got the call for a professional sportswatch. I know people are saying oh you need history but I don’t think it’s always the case. I think Rolex is kind of like how h used to be prepandemic. Sometimes you get lucky and you don’t have to have a spending history. Sometimes they just want to make someone happy. They were clearly looking out for flippers. They took all the plastic off the watch before handing it to me. I didn’t care as I wanted to wear it right away. It was a two tone sports watch, not Daytona. I’m hearing the gray market is doing poorly. I think you’ll see more availability of watches. I think many who jumped in did it to flip and there was a lot of free govt money these last two years so people had extra cash. Not so much anymore. I think if you find a nice sa and are patient the watches will come sooner than expected esp if they’re dj.

Yes, sometimes they just want to make you happy. Last month I spontaneously went to my jeweler just to put myself on a waiting list for a rolex. I wasn't expecting to get one right away.I tried on the bi color date just I fell in love straight away and just grinned. Everyone had as much fun with it as I was happy. The manager then asked me is this the watch you really want, then you can take it with you straight away. Best day ever.

Hi

Has anyone here been on a wait list for Rolex. If so how was your experience. We’re on a wait list for a watch for my husband since last month and they won’t tell tell me when they think they will get the watch.
Just curious how long does it take for them to call you back ? ( the watch were on waitlist is nothing unique about it. Just a classic Rolex with blue face ).

Apparently my store only takes in waitlists in person and this is the only rolex store in my city. Is there anywhere else I can get on the waitlist by just calling ?

What country are you in and what Watch are you asking for.

Hi

I’m in the USA - Florida

Looking for a stainless steel datejust 41mm jubilee, fluted bezel and blue index hours markers ( would consider a green index )
You can call other ads in your state but they probably won’t be as helpful unless you show up in person. With your requested watch the wait should not be long. However some ads expect prespend and some don’t. For a datejust I would not prespend. The market is tanking. Hang tight and you should get an offer relatively quickly. I would be shocked if you waited more than a year esp in this economic environment. Back in 2017 and earlier you could get discounts on these styles. So please don’t feel compelled to go to the gray market and overpay.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes ! I have ZERO intentions of using the gray market knowing that I will pay more. I appreciate your input

What does gray market mean? Sorry for being a noob lol
It’s where unauthorized dealers sell watches. They are authentic and new and everything is perfect with them. The only thing is you wouldn’t get the same warranty that you would if you buy directly from an authorized dealer. Usually these watches come from “build-up inventory”. They put these watches in the gray market in order to liquidate the old stock.

Depends on the watch you want, but the AD I go to in California is pretty good with calling you if your watch comes in and you’re next on the waitlist. They only sell and put you on the waitlist if you show up in person though.

I went last March and got offered a watch for my husband 2 months later. My friend joined the waitlist for a watch he wanted in October and got a call yesterday. We didn’t run into any issues with needing prespend. I heard that there are more watches available now though and saw quite a few available in December when I went in.

I am on the wait list for a OP 36mm in Candy Pink. Been waiting for 7 months and no call at all. Probably I will never get mine as I heard its a very popular watch.

I am based in Singapore. Regardless of global recession, Singapore market seems not affected at all. I went to the grey dealer for the Candy Pink OP as I cannot wait, and am surprised business is sooo good at the grey dealer's shop! Customers keep coming in and out to buy a watch, business is non-stopping! Moreover, it's a weekday (Tuesday).
