Thank you! Not sure where I'd purchase yet. I was going to check some reputable online sites and the stores. If I can find a good price at an AD, I'd definitely go that route

Where were you planning to purchase the watch? I think regardless of where you go though it will require servicing and there is most often a charge for it. I think most places will service the watch regardless of where you got it since they can profit from the labor charges. I was at Torneau the other day and they said quartz will have lifetime battery changes for no fee but that automatics require a service charge for the labor. I was looking at their rolex watches.

It needs to be serviced because the gears need to be cleaned and oiled? or lubed? so that it runs smooth. Otherwise they get dry I think and it damages the mechanisms? or something to that extent. I"m obviously not very tech savvy on watches.

yes, can someone please explain why you can't just reset the watch?

You absolutely can. With a watch as uncomplicated (literally) as a date feature Rolex or Omega, it's a snap. The other option is to invest in a watch winder, which simulates your wrist movement and keeps it wound for you. These are electric or battery devices that house your watch when you're not wearing it, for that purpose. Good ones cost quite a bit, but there are less expensive options. Winders are a whole 'nother discussion.

Rolex owners on the watch forums are really divided on winders, with many saying just wear it as much as possible and then reset as necessary. I personally like the convenience of a winder, but it's not a must. (Some people feel that letting it rest sometimes is a plus, saving wear on working parts and the lubricating oils; others say that a winder has little impact on that stuff).

Quartz Rolex would the Cellini range.

Vagabag - I think auto watches are not that difficult to maintain, well, at least for Rolex. My decision was straight forward as I want a quartz watch. Now that you hear more opinions which may confuse you, at the end of the day, ask yourself a question, what do you really like. Come out with pros and cons of both watches...it helps.

What we think is not important, at the end you must be happy with the purchase.

On watchwinder, my mom has one where she keeps her Tudor but it still off. Having a watchwinder doesn't ensure it keeps time more accurately it just eliminates the process of winding before wearing.
