Robbery at my old outlet store

I'm with Kidlearner. For a course I took on self defense for women, we had the option of letting ourselves get sprayed in the face with mace (we were allowed to close our eyes), unless you had asthma or a lung condition. I wimped out and turned my head away at the last moment, and it STILL hurt for forever. Plus, if you get caught directly in the eye, it can deteriorate the eye's surface to irreparably low levels. It's dangerous stuff!

I'm sure. I was in Kohls one time and two guys ran in, grabbed a whole rack of leather jackets, and ran back out to a waiting car, and the employees at the registers just let them do it. The one employee told me they are told to do absolutely nothing because it risks their lives.

Exactly. I've worked retail since 1991 and this has been the policy at every store I worked at. Your life, or that of others is not worth whatever they are trying to steal.

We're told to remain calm, do exactly what we're told and to call the police after they leave.

I know. I love Coach too, but not enough to get hurt or killed for it.

AMEN! They can always make more Coach bags! People are one of a kind.

Yeah. My bf pointed out to me that I'd obviously never been sprayed with mace before so I should think twice about that. I have to agree, I've heard mace is god-awful stuff. And I figured there was probably a "do not interfere" clause or something in the Coach "contract" "magna carta" whatever. *L*

I guess my astonishment now is that 4 stupid women just used mace to steal designer handbags. Why not just walk in with their fingers in their pockets making a "gun" and do that?

I dunno, I guess when hearing about robberies at gun point, or knife point, etc. mace just seems not bad. Especially if you can throw something at the idiot women and brain them before they can mace you. *L*

(Sorry, I just got all gleeful thinking about all the comedic ways to take them down without anyone getting hurt. *L* It's fun.)

mace is BAD, its painful and attacks your vision and respritory systems. even for the people spraying the mace, there is often some residue that you inhale and it BURNS! even if you spray it 30ft away you can still smell it and itll make your cough and the closer you get to the site of where it was sprayed the yuck feelings intensify.

personally, i think all stores should have tazers behind the coutner, that way it couldve stopped them dead in their tracks.

but 15 coach bags at outlet prices wont resell THAT much....

were they ever cought?

^^ I don't know. I'm not even sure how recently it happened. My mom is often behind on reading the paper, so it could have happened weeks ago. I forgot to ask her. I'm going there in a few weeks though so maybe by then there will have been an update. I hope those women get caught. That's just wrong.

Is it weird that I'm even more disgusted by the fact that they didn't put any thought into it? Just barged in like bulls and grabbed stuff? I feel like I would have been less disgusted, and maybe even impressed, if they'd pulled a Mission Impossible and lowered themselves from the ceiling on ropes or something. *L* At least put some freakin' effort into it! It's Coach for goodness sakes.

As for the tazers, I agree. They probably aren't allowed to though because you just know in this day and age the stupid criminal would turn around and sue Coach for injuring them. *bah* All they need are some Legacy bags behind the counter. One good throw and you can knock someone unconscious with all that hardware. "I'm sorry officer, she just fell and hit her head on the bag on her way down!"

if i worked in a store and it was being robbed I would let the thieves go right ahead and take what they wanted. The store is insured for the value/price of their loss. My well being is worth a lot more than a bag.

I guess I am one of a kind. I was in the Explorer Program for our local police dept. and one of the things we had to do was be sprayed with mace...along with being tazed(sp?). The mace wasn't bad to me. Ive actually been maced twice. When I was in h/s there was a fight and I got maced. I see everyones point in the "not doing anything because they are only purses". But in the heat of the moment I KNOW I would have done something. But mace is deff. not something to be scared about IMO.

depends on the strength of the mace and how old it is. usually if you spray it once, the best thing is to get a new one.

i have really strong mace that i carry in my purse and (same strength as the ones police in my area use) then i have a friend that has a small tube of bear mace, so really, if they were going to rob a store i would think it would be something strong because its VERY easy to get a hold of.
