RIONI handbags -- any good?

I recently purchased a Rioni laptop bag for school because I needed something a little roomier than my Sac Bosphore, Naviglio, or Saumur 35. I knew I wanted something canvas so it would be lightweight and low maintenance, but also not something as conspicuous as LV Monogram or Damier print.

I'm really happy with the bag so far. It looks and feels very high quality. The bag definitely takes its design cues from the LV Icare, but I'm okay with that because the Rioni differs enough and has its own distinct branding. They're also worlds apart in price ($195 vs. $2340), and nowadays a bag has to be full leather for me to justify spending $2k or more on it.

If anyone is on the fence about this brand I would recommend trying it out. I think it's neat that a company is making bags of this caliber at such a great price. I know that I'll be on the lookout in the future for Rioni bags to meet my needs.

If anyone has experience with their rolling luggage, let me know! I'm debating among Rimowa, Samsonite, Rioni, and Bric's at the moment.

I would definitely try their duffel traveler for all kinds of travel. But for rolling luggage weight and ability to take a beating takes precedence (for checked in luggage). Check weight and dimensions against your airline's limits first and decide if you can live with it. I always weigh weight, wheels and durability against each other.

I have one rioni from my mother and its really good quality, asides from my high street luxury brands and contemporaries, its really durable and a good price point.

I have the baya messenger in medley print. So cute, leather is perfection and great crossbody when traveling or running errands.

I think I may have found a new love with Rioni! I don't know how I came across this brand a couple of months ago, but I'm glad I found it. I've always had a love/hate for LV. I hate the number of people walking around with fake LV bags (or any fake designer/manufacture bag - it's just wrong, like theft). And I hate the price tag for them. LV monogram bags are a decent to good quality. But, in my opinion, there is no justification for the cost of LV monograms. All you are paying for is the name recognition, their quality is no better (in my opinion) than Michael Kors, Coach, or Brahmin. I do love the simplicity of the bags as well as the neutrality... and the coated canvas trimmed in leather.

With that said... I'm hooked on Rioni. I recently purchased a pre-owned Princess satchel and I think it's beautiful. I also have purchased a belted tote that I will be picking up from the post office today. And I'm also waiting on another satchel to ship out. For the cost of one LV monogram, I could purchase all of the styles that I like in the Rioni.

If anyone is thinking of trying a Rioni monogram bag, here are the differences that I've noticed between Rioni and LV:

Rioni zippers are nylon, whereas the zippers on my two LV bags are metal. I'd prefer a metal zipper.
Rioni lining is a polyester or nylon lining. I'd prefer a cotton or linen lining, like what's in most Dooney bags. But, the lining on the one Rioni bag that I have is at least a thick lining.
Rioni detachable straps are not adjustable (at least not mine or others that I've seen online). I can't do cross body, so I would prefer a strap that I could adjust. However, I doubt it would cost much to take the strap to a local leather shop and have them cut it and add a buckle.

So glad to see this thread on Rioni bags. I hope this stays active. I would love to see more photos from those of you who have bags and hear how they are holding up for you.

.

You could buy a guitar strap, or look on mautto.com for a vachetta strap. There's another thread with lots of photos: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/rioni-pics-reveals-etc.763702/

Not much activity on here I thought I would post a catch up. I recently bought a Rioni bag on sale because I wanted to try a coated canvas bag (not sure why, but I did). The bag is quite nice and seems well constructed. The straps are adjustable which I like a lot. For the price I say you cannot go wrong.

It’s very pretty.

Just want to update everyone on how wonderfully my Rioni laptop bag is holding up after nearly a year of use.

I bought it as an auxiliary bag for my last semester when I needed more space to carry research papers in, and I continued using it after graduation as a weekend bag. Most recently it accompanied me as a personal item on a round trip flight from SF to Miami, where it was placed under the seat in front of me and then used as a foot rest for 10+ hours.

Since purchasing, the vachetta has started to take on a nice patina. I haven't used any protection products on it. The metal zipper pulls and other hardware still look bright gold, the canvas has worn like iron, the dimensions and functionality are superb for air travel, and the nylon interior makes for easy cleaning when storing items like shoes at the bottom of the bag. I use it as my "knock around" bag, and handle it much less carefully than my premier designer bags, but you wouldn't know that by looking at it.

I would easily rate the quality and durability of Rioni as highly as canvas bags 10x the price, and I would recommend the brand to anyone who doesn't need or want better-known monograms on their bags. After my own experience with Rioni, whenever I see one in the wild, I know its carrier knows how to pick quality items in addition to having good financial sense. Rioni handbags are not meant to copy LV. Though their designs seem similar, Rioni tweaks their design to make the bag more useful and realistic to use in life. Say, for instance, Rioni ‘s Boston bag that’s similar to the LV Speedy. The interior of the Speedy sucks there are no cellphone pockets or storage pockets except for one flap pocket that has no zip. You can buy an interior storage insert but that defeats the purpose. I buy a bag to have multiple storage space and end up buying another thing to stuff inside it. There i no feet stud to protect the bottom of the Speedy either. Rioni Boston on the other hand has a zip compartment inside, pockets, and a wide zipper to open the bag. Outside their are two pockets to put quick need essentials or phone. They have feet on the bottom as well as vachetta handles that will patina like LV.

I bought the Rioni Satchel for my mom 10 years ago and she has used it religiously everywhere everyday. Rain, sun, wind, whatever.... she’s used it. It was such a functional bag it was sooo worth it . THE bag is so old now and the leathers darkened so much, we decided it was time to move on.

So if you’re not considering getting one you really should. Their quality and design is very nice and you can’t beat the price and quality you’re getting.

I was looking for a vachetta luggage tag, because my Rioni duffle didn't come with one (it was new on Ebay, but I didn't notice it wasn't included in time). Yep, I'm still in love with Rioni.

I found some, and one listing had different colors, AND one of them was beeswax coated. I've also seen products meant to use on leather that contains beeswax.

It's possible to be allergic to beeswax. It's because there's some propolis in it unless it's been sufficiently purified.

So if Rioni uses beeswax in a concoction they use for coating the vachetta, that could account for some being allergic to the handles.

There are alternatives to beeswax, such as candelilla and carnauba wax. They're used in vegan products, such as lip balms. For bags, a scarf might be the best option and avoiding bags where you can't avoid handling the vachetta all the time, if it turns out beeswax is what they're using, and you happen to be sufficiently allergic.

Glad to find this thread. I have looked at the Rioni bags for a long time, it never bought one. I may just do that after reading all these positive reviews. Although I could afford to buy a LV, I won’t because I agree you are paying for the name. They are way over priced in my opinion. I like Brahmin, Dooney, Aigner (the line made in Italy and sold out of Munich), and a few other lines. Not a fan of Coach, Hammitt (too many rivets and in every bag!), or Michael Kors. I even like some of the Hobo International bags and their wallets are really nice.

You won’t regret it! I’ve had mine for a long time and it still looks like almost new. I switch bags periodically so none of mine tend to get worn out, but Rioni still looks fabulous! It’s also just really easy to use because there’s so many compartments to tuck things. Love that bag. 🥰

The reason Louis Vuitton can charge so much for their bags is because they have a patent on their “coated pvc” material. It’s no different that the Rioni coated pvc. Leather can only fall into a few different categories, depending on how it is processed. People love to be noted for carrying luxury bags and other goods. I personally wouldn’t carry a LV bag because there are so many people out there carrying fake ones! I think the Rioni bags are really nice.
