Rihanna was previously announced as the new artist to be featured in the CBS Thursday Night Football intro, but her song wont be part of tonights first airing of the season.
The 26-year-old singers song Run This Town with Jay Z was set to kick off the evening alongside a comedic segment featuring Don Cheadle doing a narration. Instead, tonights airing will feature a discussion of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodells comments on the Ray Rice scandal.
We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone coverage, CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a statement.
Tonights game features the Baltimore Ravens, the team Ray Rice used to play for, and fans didnt think it was appropriate for Rihanna to be associated with the game as she is a victim of domestic violence herself.
