What is the Apple spray you mentioned - a protector of some sort? I really need something like this.

It's called rain & stain repellent by Apple brand. I bought from ebay.
I think lot's of people here on tpf use this product.
I always apply this two coats before I start to carry the new bag. So far I never had issue with my light color bags.
