Hi all,

Does anyone know if Tiffany's will reset diamonds that are currently in a Tiffany three stone ring? My center stone is .90 and the side stones are .50 each. I love the ring but the side stones compete with the center. All the stones are beautiful! The ring is from the early 2000's. I would like to have the center stone reset into a solitaire and the side stones reset into platinum studs.

Please share any information you may know.

Thanks in advance!

I sent an email to Tiffany customer service yesterday and I heard back from them. The said I need to send the ring in to the service center and they will contact me with a price, etc. If they are unable to reset the stones, the ring will be sent back to me in it's current condition.

Has anyone had experience with sending in pieces directly to the service center? Is it faster to take to a Tiffany store and let them send it?

I can't say which way is faster. I would imagine in person at the store would be better. The SA can help you with what you are wanting and advise if it could work before sending it off.

Good luck! I hope you can find an experienced SA to guide you.

I did it! I took my ring in to Tiffany’s today and requested to have the center stone reset into a classic solitaire and the two side stones into platinum studs. The good news is they think there will be no issues with my request. I will get a brand new solitaire setting as opposed to them melting down the platinum and reusing it. The bad news is that it may take several weeks. Hopefully I will have an estimate in two weeks or less. I am nervous about how it is going to look but I have confidence in Tiffany. It will look like a brand new ring. Also, I will be getting larger diamond studs with beautiful stones! I have a pair of Tiffany studs but they are smaller and while still very sparkly, the color is a grade below my larger stones. Nervous and excited at the same time!

I am getting a new diamond band to match the solitaire. I am not sure which one I will end up with. I love the larger Embrace, .57 ct. band. That’s my first choice.

Attached are photos of the bands I tried on today with a similar size solitaire although lower color than my stone. I am a bling girl so I would go for the larger one but the .57 ct. is also nice. FYI, the stone did not show any color; it was my bad photography in the lighting.

Hi all,

UPDATE on reset project...

I received the quote yesterday to break apart my three stone ring into one solitaire and one pair of diamond stud earrings. The cost to do both is $1,700; platinum classic six prong Tiffany ring setting and platinum four prong earrings with squeeze backs. The valuations will be $100 each. ALSO, I found out that my center stone is actually 1.01 carat not .90 as I originally thought. That is great news because it means that it will be valued higher since it is over the one carat mark. Tiffany's service center stated that the work would only take three weeks instead of the 4 to 6 week timeframe that the in store representative quoted me.

I am very excited to see my new pieces and will share photos when they come back.

ALSO, I have decided against going with the larger Embrace diamond band. I love the look of the larger band by itself but with my size solitaire, I feel like it would overwhelm my beautiful diamond. If I do a diamond band, it will be the smaller, 2.2 mm Embrace band or the Metro platinum eternity band that I currently wear.

Thanks for the update. I think the prices for the resets and the new valuations are reasonable. I can’t wait to see them.

I have the 2.2mm embrace with my 1.35c solitaire and I love the width of the band.
Your set is perfect! My stone ended up being a 1.01 I color, VS1 clarity. I purchased the ring from an estate jeweler and they did an appraisal which did not match Tiffany’s information in the system based on the serial number. The appraisal graded the center stone as an H, VS1 and .90 carat. They did not take the stone out of the setting to measure it so it was an estimate. I am happy that it is larger even thought the color grade is one lower. I didn’t see any color in the stone before so hopefully I will still love it after it is reset in a solitaire setting.

Mine is I VS1 too and I can’t see any color in my stone. Your reset will look lovely! I can’t wait to see the ring and the earrings.

Those prices sound reasonable to me. Yay for a larger than thought diamond.:yahoo: I can't wait to see how everything looks.
