Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

I noticed the new youtubers /iGers who have bigger following now like hellocatwalkinthecity, tatyinthecity and others are now selling with their consignment business. I just can fathom how they use the YT platform for their unboxing, for likes and views , then return or sell afterwards. Is this intentional?

I have seen those, but also just regular YouTubers who are now resellers are doing it. You visit what you think is a private Insta page and their stories and uploads are full of listings. There is a woman from Canada doing it now but I don't recall who she is. I don't watch any on purpose, but I've come across more sales videos like that.
Well, everyone wants extra money to support the bag habit

I second this. She is not like the others like catwalk or Taty or orchmelia who i think already know their intentions: repeatedly buying /hoarding bags from new season for content and then selling them for profit.

To me, she seems like someone that loves bags, but is young, still in college, with limited funds. She has had mostly the same collection for a long time, compared to a lot of other youtubers, and doesn’t have a large collection. She creates her videos mostly with the same bags, and doesn’t add new bags that often. She did even say she felt unsure about doing another unboxing so soon, but mostly everyone in the comments wanted to see her new bag (and the new bag didn’t seem like an impulse purchase - she talked about loving this bag and putting it on her wishlist back in October).

From what I’ve seen, she sells pieces that no longer work for her or don’t make sense for her to keep if she purchases something new that is too redundant, which I think is understandable. I think it is actually pretty responsible to not let your handbag collection grow beyond your current financial means.

Also, so far she is not repeatedly buying bags from new collections just to create content and then selling them right away, or selling them a season or so later. She isn’t hoarding stock or selling new collection bags at a massive premium/profit, like some other problematic people have been doing.

But maybe it will progress to that over time especially if she feels the need to keep creating new content with new bags, more unboxings, etc.

Some portrays to be minimalist then set up a consignment store LOL
And others get bags for free and sell them for a profit . That’s the world of the new “influencers “

As someone who's always dreamed of getting Chanel and saving everything has just burned me right out of wanting to own at least 1 Chanel.

Resellers greed, brand greed, jacking up 20 year old vintage to 5-6k now? Gross.

And as everyone mentioned, all these "influencers", you tubers with none stop unboxing.. it's too much.

I still want one but at this point all i can do is coming over to TPF and venting to you guys.

Omigosh I have to laugh at myself! If hellocatwalkinthecity's whole point is to inception her consignment business into my feed, I think she succeeded. When her Chanel DIY cleaning video came up in my feed, I thought she seemed relatable and subbed from there. Thank you for pointing this kind of thing out.

Because we are influenced..... I almost bought a palm spring mini because it is light and easy lol except for people like her , it ended up with the same story

Having said that , redeluxe is located in US , but they making 20-30% profit on top which is extremely greedy .

Well, I can see why je suis lou shops with them, because for her, it works out to be less money than the bag would be in her local store.

I agree they are selling bags for quite the hefty premium, however I will say their prices fall in line with what are on other platforms right now like Fashionphile, TheRealReal, and of course instagram, facebook groups, eBay, etc.

Do I personally agree with these hefty premiums? No, but objectively I can see why it continues to happen, as not many would want to sell a bag for lower than the current market price, or lower than the current average of how much others are selling their bags for (unless they are aiming for a very fast sale).

Most people want to make the most they can when they sell their belongings. If that is ethical, of course, is another story.

Ideally most people and companies/platforms would sell luxury items including bags for below retail, because they are no longer brand new out of the store. Just like jewelry, as soon as you buy it and walk out of the store with it, it depreciates in value immediately.

From her comments on her recent video, I saw that she does visit USA. One of her subscriber saw her in a city in USA. So she can buy at retail if she wants to but probably doesn't have a SA due to living in Mexico. I still not do not appreciate these YouTubers promoting resellers/personal shoppers. If they do have not complete access to a boutique then that is different.

Agreed. I relate to her content a lot and I always you can tell she doesn’t want to seem like the typical unboxer by asking if she should space them out just because she knows how people will look at it. She’s discussed how her bags help her with her anxiety and depression and give her something to look forward to and in this pandemic I can definitely say the same. Doesn’t give me greedy vibes

Je suis lou recently swapped her caviar m/l with a lamskin one via redeluxe. Was the lamskin flap brand new? Do you think it was worth it?

I'm also shocked to find out the market price for a beaten up, deflated quilts, vintage.

Je suis lou lives in Mexico? Wow, I would have thought it was France or somewhere else in Europe. What I don't understand is how someone her age has the money for all these bags.
She lives in Spain and is learning to speak Spanish. She got stuck in another place during covid though (living with her bf's parents) and wasn't able to travel home for many months. In a Q&A she mentioned her grandmother gifted her a Rolex and other expensive items so perhaps it's being funded by family or a trust fund left by a grandparent? She's a student living in her first apartment so she can't afford her purchases without some other source. I seem like a fan but I've watch like 3 or of her videos only

JesuisLou is Mexican and lives in Mexico City. She lost me when she explained in a video how she funds her bags. She basically said she doesn't go out to eat, doesn't spend money on anything else (who even has cost of living, right?) and just uses her pocket money to buy bags. She also made it sound like her dad (who finances her) is not particularly wealthy and some months struggles to pay her. Ok girl...

She is not Mexican, she does not even speak Spanish. I believe she was stuck in Mexico City during covid, it is possibly her bf who is Mexican and his parents? Her channel content is stamped all the time as ES (Espana/Spain). Maybe she's trying to hide where she's from, she's not really upfront about it.

I think a lot of luxury youtubers are living like that. Many are not very well off at all, and just are feeding their addiction with spending all their money on bags. The glitter you see in the unboxings and videos isn't anything close to their life. It's sad really, and all consequences of what social media has done to society. People are so focused on curating this image of who they are through insta/youtube, and it's not reality. I try hard to stay off of it to the extent possible. I'll enjoy unboxings now and then but only as information and don't view it as some lifestyle i need to live.
