Resale value is interesting only in that it makes a good bragging point when you get a great sale. Or, if you are looking to buy on the resale market.
Resale is driven by two things - desire and avalibility.
Desire: Current and classic BVs are gorgeous. But the 80s and the 90s? That's a sucking dark hole in the BV history. Remember the logo bags? A local resale shop has one I was thinking off - just for the history. I coudn't face it though.
Also, as designers go, BV is YOUNG. It's only been around 35-40 years. It doesn't yet have that mystique of decades.
Finally, a big part of the resale market is driven by the asperational buyer - the person who can't or won't pay full price, but wants to have the look. That buyer knows the better established brands more - BV is almost like fashion's secret.
Avalibility - BV isn't painfully rare. Oh, there are the LE's - the cabats and the knots. Those are desirable and command respectable prices on the resale market. But other bags - Even venetas go on sale with seasonal colours. Their are sales, outlet stores. You can pick a veneta up when you go to the store. H, some Chanel colours, and LV LEs tend to command their original prices in the resale market or higher than retail because it it isn't always possible to find the right bag at the right time.
If you think about it - resale values have shot up dramatically. As little as two years ago, the $20 BV vintage bag was a common sight.
