Resale value for BOTTEGA VENETA

I think that when a brand is discounted or goes on deep sales it tends to devalue them on the secondary market. For instance, Dior. BV has also had some very deep sales both at the boutiques and the department stores. You never see LV or Hermes on sale, and I don't see Chanel too often.

i think you are absolutely right. great observation.

I also never buy based on resale value. Nothing...bags, diamonds, gold, cars. I usually keep it because I love it and that is an object's worth to me.
I also have a feeling that BV will not go forward with these deep sales. In addition, a few brands are separating the wholesale offerings from the boutique offering. BTW, Hermes does have sales, the sample sales...40-70% off.

And look how we clamor for the cabat, which does not go on sale, either. However, resale is always lower (at least $1000) than original price, even for a barely used cabat.

If I wanted a brown or black cabat I would probably take a stab and ebay to save $1000, as you are right they are always below retail. But with the burnt marshmallow I'd probably have NO hope of waiting for somene to but it and decide to sell it.

Even though I don't consider to resell my bags when I purchased them, sometimes I do sell my old bags to fund for a new one.

Deep sale is not a bad thing for both brand stores and customers...
Brand stores can increase more profit at the end of the seasonal cycle and customers can benefit from getting quality items with affordable pricing...

IMO, BV does not have such high resale value compares to other brands.

Yes, ReRe, you are in for the initial purchase. I have never seen an ottone cabat on eBay, though I did see a PO with snaps offered. It did not sell on ebay, but was never listed again leading me to believe that it sold off ebay after the listing ended. In truth, there are very few cabats offered on eBay, so it is not a reliable source. I often wish that there was a place here where we could buy our HG's... or even get an alert that someone was interested in selling. I remember once that someone with an ottone cabat causually mentioned that she was thinking of selling and that was removed. I do not know how it could be arranged, but we need a cabat broker - lol!!!

Milan Station in Hong Kong. I never thought about the resale value before, but when I fell in love with Hermes and decided to bring those bags that I will not be wearing to the reseller, the manager of the reseller told me the resale value of BV is very low. Before that, I usually do not consider too much when buying a bag, but now I want to make sure I really like a bag (any brand) and be sure I want to keep it before I buy it. Lost a lot of money reselling my bags.:sweatdrop:

What BV reseller are you taking about:graucho: I am interested!

Yes, got myself a mini purple cabat because SA told me it is never on sale and there are only 250 pieces (limited edition) and only available in Asia. Since I love purple, I got one to keep. It is very light and the color is beautiful. I will never sell this one.:yahoo:

Congrats I am happy that you like your new cabat and that you will never sell it.
Please post pictures or even better it deserves its own proper reveal.

I never buy handbags based on resell value but if i have to choose between 2 handbags that I like equally I will most probably buy the one with better resell value
Because I was able to finance new BV purchases by selling other handbags with good resell value.

BV handbags are different - they are classic, simple and timeless handbags with excellent craftsmanship, I don't see any reason why I will want to sell them. I want to keep them forever

Believe it or not I was able to make a (tiny) profit from selling some of my LV and Chanel Handbags.
I bought them few years back and they were never used. The retail price went up so the buyers were very happy to buy them at lower price.
Especially since they are better quality than the ones available in the stores.
I must clarify I like and buy classic styles in neutral colors, which I believe is an important factor in the resell value of any handbag
