Good job, so glad you got rid of the smell, I have a sensitive sense of smell too and even a little bit would drive me crazy. And I looooove that backpack!

Thanks, right now the willis smells like blackrocks conditioner which isn't great but it's not too bad and it fades with time!

To my surprise I was really taken with the backpack, it is a very beautiful bag!

Congrats... I've never bought a smoky purse, but once I bought a smoky leather jacket and dry cleaning it ($$$$$) got rid of the smell. I really hate the smell of cigarettes. Once I had a book out of the library that was really smoky and I had to return it without reading it, it was so bad.

That has happened to me too.

Great job...I'm glad the charcoal filters worked. All three bags are beautiful...the Ivy Laurel is stunning. I've never seen that one before.

For some reason, I love those kind of leather backpacks, though I have absolutely no use for one. Yours is just gorgeous!

That backpack is gorgeous! Kudos for solving the smoke problem. I got the purfume reek out of a bag by soaking it in vinegar, but it still smells faintly of vinegar (which is better, IMO that cheap perfume that I assume was spilled in the bag).

I think you're our first truly successful cigarette destinker.

Here is the red Legacy West Backpack 9827 (China, 2003). I wasn't really looking for a backpack but this one was so pretty and in nice shape and it was so cheap! I paid only $7 with a coupon at Savers.

It didn't have any bad smells. I just gave it a sink bath with Ivory, stuffed it with towels to dry, conditioned with leather cpr, then polished the hardware with wenol. Nothing to it!

Again the first 3 pics are before and the last 2 photos are after rehab.

It is a nice large size because many older Coach backpacks are rather small.

I REALLY LOVE all the Legacy west bags! I've had two and the leather is just gorgeous on them! And this red is TDF!!
Yeah, I had pretty good luck with a combination of washing , airing outside when sunny and breezy, and sealing up a bag tightly with the same charcoal pellets that you found ! I am convinced the charcoal is a truly slow but steady winner. But it sure takes patience. In some cases, where people are afraid of too many "washings" it might even require swapping out the charcoal for fresh pellets a few times every few weeks. I am glad you have these beautiful bags to show for it! I LOVE THEM ALL... I'd been looking for a Navy Willis myself and finally thanks to a fellow tpf'er have gotten one!

You are truly gifted:p They look fabulous:smile1:

Thank you so much, but as I have said many times "it's usually not that hard to make a older Coach purse look beautiful again" because you are starting with fine quality materials and craftmanship.

Just about anybody can do it with a little (very little) elbow grease!

A friend once loaned a book to me and I got really sick while trying to read it! Her cat used to sit in her lap and rub it's chin on her books while she was reading. I love cats, they are beautiful and smart animals, but I am very allergic to them. I didn't know what was making me so sick but I was allergic to the book!
