ok ive always pronounced TOGO as it is spelt- To (like go) and Go.. Is that correct? A new to me SA pronounced it quite differently, he said Toh-hee-yo.

Have i been pronouncing it wrongly?:p

Farra like Farrah Fawcett ... n .... Dole like Dole pineapples... In French, the pronunciation/emphasis would be slightly different (not so much emphasis on the final e, among other things).

Thanks mistikat! That was how I was pronouncing it but the SA seemed to say something different (can't remember exactly what), which made me second guess it.

How great would it be to insert an audio component to this thread? Instead of ESL (English as a Second Language) it'd be HSL. :p....or really Hermes French 101.:amuse:

sound very silly to ask? I m a non english background... how u say Birken? like broken? or bird-ken? sorry....but i don't want to act silly to the SA as i know nothing about the bag i want to get.... thanks

You're welcome, DeeDee! But GT is the one who deserves the credit. I on the other hand have no idea:sweatdrop: about so many words, lol, particularly most of the scarf names/themes!:p

you guys want me to record myself on a video or something and email it to all the ones who want to know how to pronounce the words??? I speak French perfectly, so it is not a problem for me to do if it could help...

Sorry ladies, I would really like to help but I wish I could just record myself saying these words! It would be easier!

And yes, the "S" at the end of Hermes is a loud "S", meaning we have to hear it.

I'm a bit confused ... I always thought most of the s at the end of french words are not pronounced, like j'entends. Can I ask why it is pronounced in Hermes? Is it because it is a Greek word or a name? I'm always curious to find out how French people would say Hermes. :)
