Real Diamond or Man made ones?

right now, i only buy real ones..... i feel a little guilty tho, thinking about where it comes from and how much blood it comes with. i really want to like man made for this reason, but i cannot seem to get myself to like it.:hrmm:

the real thing all the way. synthetic ones will never ever look or feel like real ones, especially to people with trained eyes. and remember, the rock lasts forever! if you can't afford to pay for a tiffany, or harry winston or what have you- buy loose diamonds and have them set yourself... unless that's hard to do in the US.. it's the way to go!

Only real is the way to go. I lament when I think that 3 years ago when I was 15 I used to think CZ was soo fab. Ugh.

I am-well my mother is building up a diamond collection for me so in celebration of turning 18 last week we are going diamond ring shopping. I have found an amazing tiffany cocktail ring which is platinum and encrusted in diamonds for £1100. I figure she can just round it up to £2K with a paddy and I'll fund for my damier speedy 30 myself...

The link above didn't work for me:hrmm: I've done a little research on this subject, and when the time comes, I would like to have either a lab created diamond or an antique diamond. The lab created stones are pretty stunning, and you can get a flawless diamond for significantly less than a natural one. Here's me stepping up onto my soapbox for a moment: I don't like that diamond prices are so heavily manipulated, and I am against the violence caused by the diamond trade. It's the same reason my next car will be a hybrid: it's my responsibility to do my small part to help with issues I care about. I am in no way suggesting that anyone else is wrong for whichever decision they make on this matter, but this is my choice. This is me stepping down off my soapbox:smile1:

You're not alone on the soapbox. I feel the same way in terms of hybrids and diamonds. The blood diamonds was discussed in one of Kanye West's video (Diamonds are forever.) (I'm not a huge K W fan, but it was nice to see a rapper bring some social commentary given the emphasis on bling in the rap/hip hop community.)

I appreciate your sharing your POV and appreciate you emphasis on it being your responsibility in terms of talking about your response to the subject. The only actions we can be responsible for are our own.

We all make choices on what is important to us. I have a friend who would be horrified to know what I spend on purses! :p

Good for you!! I purchased a hybrid car back in October & love it. I have a 1 carat diamond solitaire in my wedding set, but that was many years ago, when I was not educated in the diamond trade. Now, I refuse to purchase diamonds. I have 2ct. moissanite studs and LOVE them, they look fabulous & I can feel good about wearing them. I'm an aware consumer, in the global market we should be aware of how certain goods affect others in the world. Just my thoughts. I'll be off my soapbox now too:smile1:

I prefer the real thing for my wedding ring, but I would consider the manmade ones for earrings. I do own a pair of Moissanite earrings, and they are better looking than my diamonds!

I agree...I have the three prong setting, I think they are called 'martini', and I love them...they are still a bit pricey but definitely less expensive than diamonds.

I have the martini set earrings too. I love them!!! I get tons of compliments, the setting is nice and low & looks different than the standard stud setting. Moissanite is a great option for people who don't want to buy diamonds or on a budget.

I like Japster (futurefashionistas) jewelry a LOT. And she is very resposible in her diamond purchasing. She guarantees all of her diamonds are conflict free. I have admired her designs for years, but have just recently began purchasing from her. I am happy with what I have gotten so far.

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to this forum and thought I would say hello and introduce myself finally. My first love is and always will be jewellery (handbags and shoes come a close second) so it's probably appropriate that my first post is in this section. Regards the real or fake discussion, I have to say for me it real diamonds all the way, but I have an endless supply of guilt free Australian Argyle diamonds to choose from and they are simply stunning with no violence involved!! The only problem (a big problem IMO) is that I will very soon run out of fingers lol
