I want to let everyone know- Ramesh told me Joseph Duclos will have SO and custom order availability. They’ll also have interchangeable decorative straps trickling in after the launch. What I’m looking forward to is the ability to SO a custom strap length. It might take a little time for some of these extras, but Ramesh emphasized his desire to cater to JD’s clients. He’s an amazing person as well as designer. Grand opening notice is courtesy of Ramesh Nair.

I was just looking at the exact bag in chestnut: https://josephduclos.com/en/collections/sac-et-pochettes/products/sac-diane-mm-chataignier - and thought the same: it reminds me of the Celine 16 top handle bag. I don't like the flap of the Celine 16 though, I feel it is too small for the overall silhouette, plus the closure is quite basic. JD Diane's "pendulum" like closure is definitely more interesting and unique. I imagine the sound of the pendulum clicking to close would be quite satisfying. I also love how structured it is. The metallic bar on the edge reminds me a bit of a beautiful vintage Hermes saddle (forgot the name, attaching a pic), but the design is different. I would have liked it to have a slightly more trapezoidal silhouette and maybe to be a few cm taller, but I really like it overall. The natural calf is very sensitive to scratches, but the patina that develops over time would compensate that I guess. Very beautiful, classic and timeless bag - it definitely looks promising!

Thank you for the info you provided. Yes! I think the clasp is quite unique. I assume it’s magnetic? Oh, wait. I see it has a claw-like mechanism. It’s beautiful, but the price-:wtf:

Yes, it looks like a claw that "hugs" the pendulum, very interesting! I love the clever closure mechanisms that Ramesh Nair came up with while at Moynat (like the M twist on the Gabrielle or the Loulou closure). Oh, the price! I can only admire it on the pictures...

I compared the new JD bag to its strip-of-leather-down-the-middle twin, and decided the JD version, with its larger flap, has a more balanced look. I’m feelin’ classic messenger vibes. I like it. What do you think? Does it remind you of the Celine 16 bag?

I’m excited.
Yes I thought the same thing but seeing them in direct contrast I very much prefer the Ramesh take on the style. I also really love the clasps.

I’m looking hard at the messenger style bag….

Lately, I‘ve been quite mindful about my bag purchases. At one point, I didn’t purchase a new bag for years. Right now I have two bags- my 2019 Moynat tote and a 2020 Hermès. This year, my thoughts have been all about a Hermes Bolide 27 and/or a Gaby bb. Now, I have to add a JD, and scrimp and save for a Bo27, or Gaby bb, too. I was hoping for Moynat prices- not Hermès Kelly prices. I must say, the artistry and artisanal craftsmanship is dictating the price.

I’m looking for a warm brown top handle bag now and contemplating on the Delvaux Brillant in vegetal color (surpique), though I’m not convinced by the buckle closure (cumbersome to use?). I’d also love a Gabrielle pm - probably in black, I haven’t seen it in brown. Besides these 2, I also like the Mark Cross Madeline (luggage) and the new Sidi design from Alaia (2 handles in Almandite color). This new JD design might change the list and replace it entirely given the price :) I was also expecting for 3-4k (euro), so I will have to give it some time and thought…

Agree, they do look alike, but JD is more balanced. I'm sure JD leather is of better quality too, this particular Celine scratched easily. I'm not so sure I like the side metal plates though. And I wonder if they add much weight to the bag - might help with corner wear on the other hand. Would be great to see it IRL.
