Thank you for the photos etk123! Some of the repros I've seen have very thick prongs and look awful, but the ones on the Vatche look very similar to the Tiffany ones.

I noticed that you went with a estate Tiffany setting for your reset. Do you think the Vatche basket sits higher than the Tiff? And how do the knife edges compare - is one sharper than the other?

Also--IF you get that James Allen---Ask the SA you work with to check with Jim Schultz to see if they're still a Vatche dealer, if they are, you want the Vatche U113.

I just emailed JA and the rep told me that they only had in house settings. So I attached a link from a Pricescope topic (from 2012) where James Allen mentioned that they are a Vatche dealer. She said she would check and get back to me. So either they've changed their policy since then or the boss has it wrong :roflmfao:

Yea tell her to ask Jim Schultz. Tell her Ame from PS saw Jim mention it and I told you about it. He can correct me and the thread.

Vatche if I recall correctly will set this higher or "normally". I prefer it higher since I like to see the whole stone. Tiff sets it too low and the stone looks smaller if its set too low

I couldn't say if the basket sits higher, I didn't see the Vatche set with a stone, and I hadn't seen the Tiffany yet to notice the difference. I would say there's not a noticeable difference between the knife edges. If I'm remembering correctly the shank may have been a touch thinner on the Vatche. It's so so pretty!

Not sure how accurate this is, Ame might know, but I had two different SAs tell me that Vatche used to make the Lucida setting for Tiffany. And one SA told me that the U113 is identical to the Tiffany setting. Now I'm sure that was just her opinion, but they're definitely really close. I wish I had seen the Vatche and my estate setting together, they were at different stores. Mine was actually in the Vatche display, they didn't have the U113 sample but had the Tiffany one in it's spot.

etk123, your ring is GORGEOUS! ...and this thread is totally making me second guess my decision to go all "blingalicious" on my setting... The Vatche U-113 was my second favorite. Hmmm...

Bumping to provide a little update.

My partner (evil that he is) told me he almost pulled the trigger on a 0.82 G, VVS1 (Tiffany graded) triple X. Out of curiosity, I asked him how much it cost. His answer? $15,000. The other option he considered was a 0.92, D, SI1, XXX with an even more jaw dropping $18,500 tag.

After picking my jaw off the ground and smacking him for even considering spending that much, he then told me that he's already picked out a 1.01 G, SI1 (eye clean), (GIA certed) triple X, HCA < 2. The ring is from a local designer and the kicker - this cost less than the 0.82 Tiffany.

I'm super impressed that he went and did the necessary research to find the perfect diamond and he was also very lucky to get a SA who was brand new to the company, but had been a gemologist for the previous 15 years and could help him beyond the 4Cs. He impressed the SA with his knowledge, apparently - even pulled out the HCA during the consultation ;)

Will update when my precious appears!
