Question: do you use your older bags?

I love being able find an oldie that I haven't carried in awhile. I haven't liked many of the newer styles in the last year or so, so I've been shopping my closet and rediscovering a lot of goodies there.

I keep using a bag (of any brand) for as long as the layout works, it doesn't bore me, or look too worn. My oldest bag at the moment is a Vera Bradley Hipster in a 2008 pattern - it washes well and the color combo is non-trendy. It's the perfect bag for hot sunny outings with the kids - the strap smells like sunscreen all summer.

And I will hunt down older styles that suit me currently.

For example, the Archival Rambler - I wasn't in to Coach at the time (leather and small children being an iffy combo). And I wouldn't have bought it then as it would have been too small for my needs and I used to dislike flap bags.

But now, it's perfect. So I grabbed a like new one in Black Cherry recently. The amazing price helped :) I suspect I'll keep it for a long time, as the style is classic Coach, and the shade of red will not look dated. But if it starts to look worn, I'll either sell it or hand it down to a sister or niece.

Honestly, not as much as I should. It's slightly sentimental for me. The majority of my bags get carried frequently during their heyday and I don't want them to get too beaten up. Once they hit a certain point, I back off carrying them as frequently. Things that get put in the closet before they're that worn, unless if they really fill a niche need, tend to get sold.

I tend to rotate my bags frequently and I use older styles quite a bit. I have given away a couple of bags to friends. eBay does not seem like it is worth it unless you really won't use the bag or just don't want it anymore and are not particularly looking to make money and any money you make is "gravy."

Some of my older bags are classics and I try to make sure they get moved into rotation on a regular basis.

I think a good way of judging whether or not you should keep a bag (or any clothing/accessory, really) is to wrap it up, put it in a box, or do whatever you do when you are putting something away for long term storage. Basically, pretend you've already gotten rid of it! Don't let it be seen, and leave it there for as long as you can. If you can let it go and not think about it for over a year or two, chances are high that you are over the bag.

I don't think you necessarily have to use the bag in order for it to have personal worth. But if you can go for long stretches of time without thinking about it, it's a sign!

I'm selling one of my purses right now for this very reason. There was a period of time where I loved this bag, obsessed over it. But it just wasn't practical and too dressy for me to use regularly. So I put it in the dust bag in the back of my closet and realized I didn't need it after all. Sad, but it really helps to declutter.

I definitely go through and rotate my bags as much as possible....at times I will change out my purse every day! However, whatever is newest tends to get carried for a bit longer....I just spent the weekend cleaning out my closet and bringing out some of my older bags (many of the Madison and Poppy lines) and putting them in closer proximity to my rotating bags...I tend to pack some away depending on the season. It makes me feel as if they are brand new again!

PS- If you do plan on getting rid of any of those Isabelles- LET ME KNOW! I loved that style and bought way too late to enjoy it as much as I normally would have....thinking of my 15 Kristin's and too many to count Sophia's! And I cannot forget my lovely Lindsey's either!

Of course!! That's what makes our collections so fun, that we can go back later and pull things out again, to enjoy them. If something really doesn't fit my style anymore, then I sell it to get rid of clutter.

I do not! Once I am done using a bag, I know I will never carry it again, the only one I have and do not sell is my Haley Ocelot bag in which I love the lurex leopard and get tons of compliments, not to mention my mom ordered it for me for Christmas and the last FP store to have it was in Hawaii and they shipped it to me. Then the outlets started doing that style so I keep my FP ocelot. But others, I get sick of. I am keeping my ultraviolet duffle though. But I'm already over my Smythe and small sadie etc. I should hold on to them but I know I wont want to use them when I see the newest styles!

My oldest bag is an old made in new York stewardess that I still use. Other than that, I didn't get into Coach until the 2012 legacy collection, so those are my oldest bags. I sold a few of those that I wasn't using as much, but I use my two remaining ones-a tanner and a mini tanner-all the time.

Many people buy a bag and use it until it's too worn out or they get sick of it, then they get a new bag and start over again. For some reason I see a lot of LV bags used like this, they will be worn through and falling apart and the owners don't seem to mind. Maybe they want to get their money's worth? One lady with such a bag finally decided to replace her LV neverfull after it wore out competely, and what did she replace it with? The exact same bag. I can't imagine using the same bag for years and years.

Personally I've always liked a variety of bags and like to change bags every couple of days, so yes, I use all my older bags. Because I rotate through them they seem to look like new for years.
