Hello everyone,
As vacation season is getting closer, I think of which bag to bring to our greece trip in June.
Im a super light skin type and always have to use sunscreen.

How are your experiences when it comes to the canvas bags and leather parts: Will it damage the surface when for example my arm touches the bag whole time while wearing crossbody / shoulder carried? Is it as delicate as with the hand sanitizers??
I have no glue and dont want to ruin a bag (and my vacay )! TIA

Eek! Excited for your trip. You should definitely wear your sunscreen. I don't own canvas but the leather handles on my keepall xs and leather on any bag really, I am very careful with when it comes to sunscreen. The leather can get greasy/sticky and might discolour. How about wearing a twilly or scarf over the parts of the bag and handles?

For summer vacation I use my Favorite MM with a canvas strap crossbody so there is almost no vachetta. Or a DE bag where is no vachetta at all. I recommend to avoid touching the vachetta leather with sunscreen and think the twilly option is a good idea.

Thank you all for your suggestions! That sounds good, using a twilly and only my DE pieces. I wont bring vachetta to Greece then! :coolio:

Do you think the canvas can also be damaged like with hand sanitizers?

This is an interesting question. Hand sanitizers are mostly alcohol, that is what breaks down the protective outer layer of the canvas. The PVC base itself doesn't really react with most alcohols, so the bag won't dissolve, but the outer coating will, that will make the canvas look dull on the affected area, and also the print will be exposed and will get rubbed off more quickly.
Most sunscreens also contain alcohol, but in much smaller concentration. So in theory they can affect the canvas, but that would require more time. I can imagine a shoulder carried Neverfull to get some damage after a few summers used by someone who uses sunscreen excessively.
In summer I only hand carry anything Vuitton, since my palm is usually not covered.

I got curious so I experimented with a canvas bag I no longer use :giggle: I put sunscreen on a small area, left it there for 5 mins then wiped off. Looks like nothing happened to the coating. The area seems cleaner in fact  I'll check the area again tomorrow, maybe the effect is delayed!

What sunscreen brand is that? Looks good! (For my face as well as the bag!!)

Hi everyone. Weird question here, but has anyone tried an oil free sunscreen SPRAY on their vachetta? I have a LV Petit Noe that is a nice honey color and I want to preserve the color and prevent it from tanning more or just slow it down. I love fresh new vachetta and having it tan over time is the part of the fun yes but it's at that perfect color now.

Oh boy... I'd be afraid of ruining it in some way. I'm interested to see what others think.

Yes me too but I'm just curious. The more I think on it the more I say leave well enough ALONE! LOL. With untreated leather you risk the leather getting darker. I did find this on Amazon, it mentions it can be used on leather in the header but it's not mentioned anywhere else that I can see. I've see product sprays for automotive care that have UV protection in them. This is what I found on Amazon. If I end up buying it for spraying items outside to prevent fading and cracking I'll try it on my nano speedy strap that I cut off from my nano speedy as its not being used (it's from the older version with the undetachable strap so there are no attachments or clips on it) and see what it does. I let you all know. Lol
