PurseBlog Article: Taking Care of Your Bag

Thanks for this article. I'm a guy and just bought my first 'bag', a Citynews Briefcase. It's Togo leather, with a Sombrero II handles, and Sombrero II reinforcement on the bottom. I'm worried about the weight of a 15" Macbook Pro (4lbs) stretching out the leather. Any thoughts on whether this is too much weight for a bag? I'm assuming since it was built as a briefcase it's designed for more weight, than say a Birkin, but I don't want to ruin this bag.

I would like to think that you’re right about the bag being able to accept the weight without distorting the handles (and maybe thats why the handles are Sombrero II rather than Togo?) - one would think that they expect a modern briefcase to support a modern laptop - but unfortunately I have no experience with this so I cannot say for certain. The Birkin handles are definitely not designed to support quite a lot of weight, and they are shaped quite differently than these, which definitely seem more typical of a briefcase or men’s bag. Hopefully someone else will chime in here with their experience?

Thanks Notorious Pink for the detailed advice! Bringing this thread back up to ask how often tpfers generally clean/condition their leather bags, especially ones in daily use? By which I mean going over the exterior/interior with a leather cleanser and conditioner.
