Purchasing Rolex

I placed my order over the phone at the SCP Rolex/Tourneau and never purchased from them before. It was my first Rolex. I did have to come to the store and pick it up in person.

Thank you for this insight! Out of curiosity, when did you place the order? My local Rolex/Tourneau boutique has told me they are no longer placing orders, but it sounds like I might need to give yours a try!

I'm guessing SCP stands for South Coast Plaza? :)

Yes, I've been to three ADs in the last month and they'll all place an order for you. However, no guarantees as to exactly when the watch will be delivered. All three told me they couldn't even give a guesstimate! It's how I ended up purchasing the 31mm ss Datejust w/MOP and diamond markers! I found it at an AD and this watch was one of four I had been considering; I knew if I walked away it could take months before I located another.. good luck!

This is very good to know, thank you! May I ask who were the ADs you visited? I would love to give them a call.

This past week, I purchased my first Rolex, and the process was straightforward. I had a specific model in mind, but I wanted to try on a few different sizes/dials to ensure I was making the best decision. We called around at a few stores, and everyone was out of stock, with an expected wait of 15-20 weeks. They ultimately suggested that we set an appointment with the nearest store, which we did.

The following day we went in for the appointment. The store we purchased from was a well-known authorized dealer (i believe all Rolex bouquets are AD's as Rolex doesn't own/operate the stores). I was able to try on watches from many different but ultimately decided on the 31mm, MOP with the Two-Tone jubilee bracelet. I tried on several Cartier (stunning but more of a jewelry piece than an everyday watch) and the jaeger LeCoultre Reverso (also lovely).

They happened to have two Rolexes of my desired size and one with the MOP for me to try on. It turns out the MOP had diamonds on the bezel, which was too much for me, so we ordered the watch I wanted. Put down a 50% deposit, and I asked her what realistically she felt the timeframe would be, and she told me 14-18 weeks.

Ultimately it was a positive experience. My partner nor I had a purchase history, but hopefully, it will be here soon.

Over two years later, I have finally gone through the process and purchased my first Rolex last week. I went into an out of state dealer while on vacation with no purchase history. I told them whether I wanted. They wouldn’t even take a deposit because they couldn’t promise anything. This was at the end of September 2021. 16 weeks later I got offered almost exactly what I wanted except it had stick markers rather than diamonds. I ended up buying it and I love it!

Waitlist and SA relationship are usually for the in-demand men’s sizes/models. Datejust is easier to get. If the one you want is not available in your AD, they might have to order it and that may be where the wait comes into play due to current situation.
new to this acronym what's AD?

⬆️ this is not so true anymore. Even DJs and women sizes are getting harder to get in boutiques. I’ve been offered some 31mm but all 36mm are sold out for the last year! The waiting and struggle to find one from a boutique is real! Premium prices by resellers are abundant though.

Hi!
I'm new to the watch scene, just have an Apple Watch. I'm traveling to Hawaii soon and reached out to an AD last month about a specific configuration I would love and hoping to try on. I knew it was a long shot, but guess what, she ordered it and it will be there to try on when I arrive! It's the Lady DJ 28mm, 2 tone YG/SS, MOP dial with diamond dial, fluted bezel.

My question is, should I just purchase it when I am there? Is this considered a rare opportunity to get the exact configuration I want? When I visit AD locations in my area, they make it seem impossible or a very long wait. I'm not sure how easy or hard it is to find a particular Rolex these days. Thanks for your advice!

Of course buy it. They did order it in for you, so it would be a courtesy at the least. Opportunities are tight these days. Hawaii sales tax is lower, too.
