So I've recently read on the PS1 thread that there's an "older version" of the bag, which is different from the current version, which has stiffer leather, improved hardware (e.g. the tag secured to the hoop instead of just the clasp of the strap), etc.

But what was bugging me was that as a fellow pf member pointed out, they had changed the trim of the Smoke from one that has a blue toned seal to one that matches the smoke colour, which really disappointed me because the blue trim makes the bag look more grey, in my opinion.

I also went to the room @ the bay (I'm in Canada) to see if I could look at some colours, but all the had was the black - but when I looked at it, the leather felt really different - it was more the sort of colour I liked - it was softer and less stiff...

I'm just wondering, for those of you who have the previous versions, could you confirm these differences ?

And what else do you notice?

I hear that they've improved the leather and it's stiffer now so it prevents more of the discolouration issues and it's less easily scratched - can anyone confirm whether that's true?

bumping this too...is there a difference between an "older" and "newer" version PS 1 bags?

and which years would be considered "older" and which ones "newer"?

Hi there !!

I've recently managed to see more of the bags, and have purchased a PS1 and a Keep All myself, so I can confirm some of the changes .

The new leathers (at least the tag on my Keep All) is marked as calf leather, whereas I believe the old ones are lamb.
I saw an older version of the White PS1 in large at The Room and the leather was a lot softer and more slouchy. Before I saw them in person, I ha though I'd prefer them to be lambskin, as it makes the bag look more slouchy and worn, which I think looks good on the ps1...however after having seen it myself, I realized that the lambskin version doesn't hold the shape of the bag well at all, because even though it was new, the edges were already beginning to curl etc., and the bag just doesn't look good at all...so in the end I think the change of leather helps in the longevity of the bag.

However, I think that in the midnight, the colour looks better in the older leather...because I happened to see it in the new version, and it didn't look appealing at all...I think the lambskin took the dye better and made it look more jewel toned. The blue was seemingly darker and duller in calf, but that's just my opinion.

I've heard that the calf skin also addresse the colour change issue better, because the old leathers, especially the smoke, was known to be prone to colour change.

I've also heard that they addressed the hardware chipping problem in the new versions of the black.

The clasp on the PS1 used to be glued on, as I saw in on the white one, but the newer ones are screwed on, which prevents the hardware from falling off, as some members have experienced.

Another change is that on the newer versions, the tag is fastened tobte strap instead of jut clipped on...which is a good thing because other members have mentioned problems with the tag falling of etc., and on the white bag I saw, even though it was new, the tag was gone, likely taken by someone while it was on display at the store.

I don't know when they started implementing the changes, as I am new to the bags myself and only bought mine recently, and they were already the newer version.

I used to want the older version more, because they took the colour better, but now I think I do prefer the new ones, as there have been many problems with the older ones.

Sorry for the long post !!

Ahh, thanks so much for clearing this up! I've been debating for the longest time whether or not I should get a black PS1 and the problems that were common with the PS1s made me shy away from buying one... maybe I'll get one then in Europe!

Definitely TRUE! I have an "old" version of the Smoke PS1 (Large) and the edging is a lovely, somewhat contrasting blue.

I'm not sure when the changes from "old" to "new" occurred, but I ordered my Smoke PS1 directly from Proenza Schouler around this time last year. It's kind of funny to think of a satchel that I've carried for only one year as being "old."

Hi, there's a pic in this thread showing the screws under the flap http://forum.purseblog.com/proenza-schouler-reference-library/please-post-your-pics-ps1-here-reference-only-633763-3.html#post16977222

I also really wants to help you if you are buying from a reseller, post pics in the PS authentication thread above here (or send a PM to me).

:thinkin:Hmmmmm.... Really? I'm thinking of getting the Midnight for my first PS1 in Medium, I don't like dull blue.

Anybody have pictures of the old Midnight & the New Midnight?

I actually think you can't see much difference, Midnight is a gorgeous color but not a bright blue, my Midnight wallet.

debi.n's new Midnight is gorgeous >here<

There are pics of the old Midnight >here<

I don't agree that the midnight is now dark and dull, but I am just going on my new midnight and haven't seen an old one. I think it is jewel toned and rich. I think the trouble with it is that in bad shop lighting or a poor quality photo it can look darker, but I don't think this is a true reflection of the colour. I think my avatar is more a true reflection of the colour.

Also I don't see much difference between mine and the links Ellie posted.

Debi is right. My avatar shows the Keep All in different lighting. As you can see, it takes on almost a grey shimmer, which is anything but dull. Mind you, it looks bluer in real life. I have posted lots of reference pictures in the Keep All vs. Large PS1 thread, many of which show off the blue quite nicely. It's a spectacular color. It's the first thing people comment on when they see my bag.

Has any body noticed the difference in the zippers? I just bought a ps1 and realized my zipper tags do not have the ps insignia on it like I've seen in other people's photos. If there is anyone that has seen this and knows why it doesn't have be insignia that would be great!
