Problem with Cartier Quartz Watch

I wish every Cartier watch would just be automatic already... it's 2021 they must have the capability

My knowledge about watches is limited but as far as I understand it’s not possible to fit an automatic movement in the smaller watches they tend to make for women or as part of a jewelry piece. And I think quartz movements are a bit lower-maintenance and maybe suitable for people who want a nice watch but don’t want to worry about watch winders or how sensitive automatics are to magnetization. PP, AP, all of those esteemed watch brands use quartz movements in smaller watches.

Manual has just style to it. e.g. an automatic Cintrée wouldn't be a real Cintrée.

And if it is argued that all watches should be automatic one may follow up that all watches need to be Quarz.

You are right - partly at least. The rotor needs to have some mass but it can be fit in plane like in some PP. However, what Piaget does  wouldn't work with automatic. As for Quarz I was like Cartier and Quartz??? but it perfectly makes sense - now I own one of these, too. Cartier is all about style not cutting edge technology. That's why it's so popular on the female side and if you look at the sales figures they are amazingly sucessfull.

They have the capability (if the watch isn't tiny). You can generally make smaller watches if you use a quartz movement. In addition, there are a lot of people who don't want to have to set the time and date on a watch every time they take a watch off and don't wear for a few days/weekends. With a quartz the watch just keeps going whether you wear it or not and replacing the battery isn't very pricey. It's also important to remember that automatic watches worn daily generally require an expensive overhaul/service somewhere between every 5 and 10 years.

I’m not sure where you live but I just got my watch overhauled and was quoted by Cartier about $350 USD for the service. They ended up replacing the watch face, hands and crown as well, for a total of about $725 USD.

That’s not bad. I have a nice scratch on my panthère that doesn’t bother me, but doesn’t look so great. I would pay to get that replaced if I was performing a full service maintenance. IDK what I did to cause that scratch but yowza.

THIRD UPDATE! After my Cartier watch stopped working again, I took it back to the Cartier Boutique. I was quickly told my watch needed a complete service (sales associate told me that with complete service the movement is replaced). I was also told that it is not uncommon for the quartz movement to fail every 6-7 years necessitating a complete service. About 3 weeks and $385. + tax later, I am thankful to have my working Cartier watch back on my wrist. Now, I wonder how long it will be before my watch develops another issue? :-stempImageZ7Yonk.jpg

Glad to hear your watch is back and you are enjoying it again. Most watches do need periodic service roughly every 5-7 years. I have the non-battery, larger automatic version of that watch. It was last serviced in 2015. It stopped working last month and I recently had to drop it off for service. Hopefully, it will come back and give many years of enjoyment again.

crooks....

I received a vintage Panthere watch and brought it to the boutique to get the batteries replaced.
They quoted me $3000 to do an overhaul (dials, face, casing) plus service. I asked if I can just do the service ($400+) but was declined. Its either I do it all or not.

to my horror, I asked to get it back and found an amazing local watch place that specializes in luxury watches. Changed my battery for $25!!!!
