Problem with Cartier Quartz Watch

UPDATE! I checked into scheduling another appointment at a Cartier Boutique using their website portal. After learning that I would be waiting around eight weeks, I decided to take my watch to a well-respected local jeweler.

Thankfully, it appears that I simply had the misfortune of getting a faulty battery. The jeweler installed a new battery, and my watch is functioning normally again!
I’m so glad to hear that all ended well! Enjoy your watch :)

I actually had an issue with an older panthere watch that had a similar problem but it wasn’t a faulty battery. I had the battery replaced instead of doing a full overhaul like the service advisor recommended because of the price. With the new battery, it ran fine for couple days but then stopped working again. Took it back to Cartier and they told me the lubrication inside the watch was dry so it wasn’t working and it needed a complete service. I thought they were pulling my leg since it’s a quartz watch but they were correct. After the full service, watch runs like a charm.

Glad to hear they were able to fix! How much was the complete service if you don't mind me asking?

8 weeks?!? Eek

8 weeks for changing a battery would be crazy. However, 8-12 weeks is generally a pretty average turn around time for most companies to overhaul a watch. Some take even longer. When a watch has an overhaul it gets completely disassembled, the movement gets cleaned and lubricated, it gets reassembled, and polished and returned to you looking like brand new. I was pleasantly surprised when I sent in an automatic Tank Francaise they returned it to me in less than 4 weeks. The cost of the overhaul was around $450. That was at a time when I also sent a Rolex in for service and it cost $600 for an overhaul.

Yes, the arrogant people of Audemars Piguet took 2+ months for a service, charged some 3000 USD, returned the watch in a faulty state and weren't even able to set the watch upon pickup. Thanks Cartier for being somewhat better here :flowers:

Many years ago, when my dad sent a Patek and a Audemars in for service, each company took about 7-8 months to come back fully serviced. Hopefully, their service times have improved drastically. Sorry to hear your watch was returned to you in a faulty state. Are you in the US, or another country? I only ask because I've heard good things about AP's service center in Clearwater, FL, and I have a watch that will probably need service soon. Thanks!

We are a bit ot here but my watch was sent to Switzerland. With PP I didn't have such unpleasent experiences (there have been even more with AP). I contrast Cartier did all that plus exchanged parts at no costs  :girlsigh:

My Tank Francaise battery just died and I am very confused about service. Will Cartier just replace the battery? Or will they need to do a full service?

Paying $500 seems ridiculous. Also, can’t they just change the battery in house? Shipping it out for a month also seems crazy and has me fearful it will end up with that $500 service I don’t want.

If it’s just a battery, it will be $46 before tax. Depends on your local boutique, but ours changes batteries on the premises within a couple of days.
