My very dependable Cartier quartz watch finally developed an issue. I have owned the piece for several years, and despite frequent and sometimes demanding use, battery replacement was the only service it needed.

Then a few months ago, I noticed that the time was off by a few minutes. I reset the watch to the correct time, but it quickly started losing time again. By the next morning, it was obvious that there was a problem. It had been over two years since the battery had been replaced, so I was hopeful that that was the only issue.

I scheduled an appointment at a Cartier boutique, and patiently waited for that date. My sales associate did a great job getting the watch looked at quickly, and even generously offered to get the watch back to me the same day if the only issue was the battery. Later that day, I got a call saying that the watch was ready to pick up. Problem solved…I thought.

Unfortunately, a few weeks later, the watch stopped. :annoyed: So, I know that there is something else wrong with my watch. I plan on taking it back to the boutique for evaluation, but I am curious if others have experienced something similar; and if so, how it sorted out?

Thanks

YES INTRESTING ISSUE, keep us updated, clearly the shop has done something to it aswell ...goodluck

Hmmm, I have not heard that a Quarz can run late  Not being an expert I think there could something be wrong with the motor or some dust. Maybe a washer went lose?

Usually it is only the battery running down - hence OP's worry.

I hope the repairs don't add-up to 1K.

For quartz, surely it's quality issue.

They might have to perform a clean and overhaul service on your watch, especially if it's 20 years old or more. Perhaps some parts are worn out and need to be replaced. Perhaps going to a good watchmaker in your area is a better idea, than taking it back to Cartier?

I’m not sure where you live but I just got my watch overhauled and was quoted by Cartier about $350 USD for the service. They ended up replacing the watch face, hands and crown as well, for a total of about $725 USD.

I would not say typical, had other - better - experiences. However, charging for replacing the battery is not okay at all for Cartier.

Reminds me of the famous Rolls story where a car broke down. After calling the service guys and repairs the owner asked what was wrong just to receive the answer that a Rolls never breaks down.

Cartier indeed has lots and lots of dark spots. They still need to go a long way.

I'm new to all of this but, did I hear that right, Cartier does not charge for battery replacement? Not that it should be significant $ anyway, especially since the quartz watches are overpriced (we're paying for the brand, not technology) so it 'should be' a lifetime of free battery replacement ..

Not just Cartier, but Chopard charges too for taking a look at the watch.

All quartz watches are not made equal. I don't know what to say except I hope it doesn't cost you too much money to find out and to repair. This is also why mechanical watches are SO darn expensive.

As much as I hate to say this, would you ever consider Hermes Apple Watch? Then you can think of it as replacement electronics with really cool bands.

I could confirm Cartier charges in Europe and just filed a complaint about with them. It's not that they deliver a value by changing the battery but as being THE prime jeweler they must not do that.

Sad to say but the more I am into Cartier the more shocked I am. At least thank god we are not as snooty as Audemars Piguet and I'm not sure about Tiffany, LV and others. :confused1:

UPDATE! I checked into scheduling another appointment at a Cartier Boutique using their website portal. After learning that I would be waiting around eight weeks, I decided to take my watch to a well-respected local jeweler.

Thankfully, it appears that I simply had the misfortune of getting a faulty battery. The jeweler installed a new battery, and my watch is functioning normally again!
