i agree to an extent. like your ribbon ring, its a pretty unique design so if someone makes a flat out copy its noticeable and wrong. however, for such simple rings like the tiffanys solitaire honestly anyone could dream that one up! shoot, when i was little i did! i knew i liked thin thin bands with a solitaire, then growing up i realized someone already thought that up. LMAO. that particular style is so easy and simple, its just someone patteneed that sucker before i got to it! LMAO!!

:roflmfao:

I agree that is bad to say you own X when it's really XX. I had tought my ER was a tiffany style once too because it's very similar but DH told me it was and Ideal cut or Hearts and Arrows which I think Tiffanys doesnt even make. I might be wrong. I have learned so much about my ring (especially how to read the specifications) thanks to Swanky :flowers:!

BTW, where is she?

I see nothing wrong w/ a general style of ring. Honestly, many Tiffany or Cartier settings are classic and have been used by lots of independent jewelers for some time, but the brand made it popular or associated w/ the name, IMO. Do I think you should say that your ring is Tiffany when it is a solitaire setting similar but not the actual brand- no. But, I don't believe that the majority of Tiffany settings are all that unique, to be honest. Even the ribbon ring and the Legacy setting are influenced by Art Deco and Edwardian settings. :shrugs:

i dont really think they are as unique anymore because its so popular now. everyones got one! or an inspired one, or a similar one, or a replica one.

^^^ We decided not to pay the premium for Tiffany too... I was verrrrry tempted to go with a Tiffany eternity band, but there are so many beautiful diamonds on the market that I just didn't see the point in spending that much money. Unless someone is going to look inside your band, they won't know it's a Tiffany, so why spend the extra $$$?

On the other hand, I love Tiffany silver, etc. Even the pieces that don't say Return to Tiffany are often "signature" looks and people who know jewelry will appreciate the piece. But diamonds are diamonds, IMO.
