Yes, I saw it in the news. I think they are authentic because of the listening price and lack of choices. There are plenty of resellers that may offer authentic Bs, and not necessarily H itself is selling them.
The news also mentioned that the Costco offers unconditional return policy. So if the buyer finds out that the B is fake, he/she can return it.
Does it make Bs less desirable for those of you who are dancing and playing and building a “relationship “ with a salesperson in order to get a B? I guess so...
I haven't been to Cosco in Shanhai, but I don't find this shocking even if they are authentic. It looks similar to how some H and other brands are sold second hand / grey market in Japan in donki stores. They are just bags after all that can be sold and resold, they don't automatically come with a crew of SAs making sure you buy other items, free tea, coffe or champagne, and a hermes store backdrop sprinkled with kelly caleche.
Not surprising, as others have said there are plenty of retailers doing business with resellers (Barneys with Heritage, etc.). They would have to be in plastic to not be manhandled. And remember Costco sells a lot of high-end things, such as diamonds.
I would hate it if I were Hermès, but they can't control resale.
Not surprising... I saw preowned LVs sold at Costco US before through some consignment vendor in store. I even saw a preowned Evelyne at a Banana Republic being sold in a small display case recently.
With TheRealReal’s IPO, I’m not surprised that the consignment market has been more legitimized as ever, translating into more brick and mortar reselling channels.
And Costco has always done vendor relationships with random “pop-up” sellers It’s actually gotten to be an annoyance these days getting solicited by random sellers while grocery shopping.
