I'll chime in that I have a Mono NF, DA NF, Mono Petit Noe, and I'm waiting for my Speedy B 35 Mon Mono. I was crazy anal about the vachetta in the beginning but I've learned to unclench on some level. I still don't want dark/dirty leather but I'm ok with a natural patina and the occasional beauty mark. I have sprayed the vachetta on all my bags with Apple Guard. None have seen much bad weather but I've also stopped worrying about every drop hitting the bag.Hi I know this is an old thread but what did you decide? I’m in the same situation I have the mono mm and am afraid to use it thinking about trading it in for the DE so I can use it and not be scared.
So this said, I did order my Speedy B 35 Mon Mono for the purposes of a travel bag that will see more wear. I was torn between the DE or the Mon Mono - but I've finally embraced the idea that the vachetta wears with you and tells the story of your life and travels. In fact, I've moved from wanting to preserve the lighter color of my vachetta to wanting to quickly (though still lightly) tan my new Speedy once it arrives.
Overall, I'd say go with your gut. Do you prefer the Mono/Vachetta or the DE/coated leather? I've never been a DE gal (for bags, I have DE SLG's) but at times I've tried to convince myself DE was the way to go because I was afraid of the vachetta patina. I've been thisclose to buying a DE NF (which would have been my first LV) but I went with the mono instead and I'm glad I did. Then I tried to convince myself the DE Speedy was the way to go because I wanted a more "care free" carry on/work bag. But yet again - I decided the DE isn't my style and I can live with patina for the bag I really want.
