i like the E colored stone in the 1.77 size... do look into the emerald cut as well

Hi Baghera! Thank you for the advice! yes we will look into the emeralds as well.

may i ask why you like the bigger stone? is it because of the color/proportions etc? would love to hear more. thanks. :smile1:

I vote for the 1.77 ct stone. Can you imagine him telling his fiancé "my sil preferred this smaller diamond. It was between this and a 1.77" would it cause issues? Just asking and just my 2cents for what it's worth. They are both beautiful, but if I could choose, I'd pick the bigger center stone. Good luck! She's a lucky lady either way!

Haha! I never thought about that friday13bride! Thats a great point i think i should mention also. The 1.77 is about 25k more so i think for my BiL he will have to finance it (which I'm not a fan off, but its up to him, he did say though that for amore expensive piece they might need to cut back on some wedding preps but i think he doesn't mind i don't know about the future bride though?) But i get what your saying and i will suggest we look at the biggest stone for his budget. :smile1:

I think for his budget a 1.1-1.4 carat size is feasible if he will lower the color and clarity abit. (E - internally flawless) demands a high premium.

He is more concerned on the proportion of it looking to big with the double halos about anything else but i do understand the allure of a bigger "rock" :smile1: i have the same sickness

Thanks for the opinion and i will also bring that up with my BiL when we do another round of ring shopping.

I'm curious what you and your BIL will think of the Embrace setting, I looked it up out of curiosity and I think I like the Soleste better! Get pictures when you see it! I would love to see your mod pics! :D

I'd go with the 1.77. She'll like the larger one, I know I would, and there's also "no need" to pay for an IF stone. I just don't see a point in that when you have an equally lovely and larger stone in a VVS2 that will be just as eye clean. You're paying for what cannot be seen. If she doesn't value the IF clarity, she might be annoyed that you/he paid for that clarity bump.

Neither photo gives any input on the cut quality of these stones.

Hi ame! thank you for your response, i was actually hoping you will chime in :graucho:

i understand the point on the clarity, what we are looking for now is the size, i only mentioned this to my BiL because he is worried that the double halo even though its a fine halo might be too overwhelming. but yah everyone prefers a bigger stone.

as for the cut clarity which is impt i know, we will look into it, i suggested to him to just propose without a ring and let the fiance to choose but he didnt like the idea of proposing without a ring and since tiffany has a great exchange policy its a non issue anyway. :smile1:

for now the main concern is the size as i mentioned for his budget it think its in the 30-35k im still unsure as he never disclosed this to me we are just looking at the carat size first appropriate to the finger i know bigger is better but theres a certain limit until it becomes too much (cocktail ring realm)

would you still prefer the 1.77 or maybe a 1.5 is better? 1.3 to help cut the cost perhaps? do you think the 1.04 is too small to be an eye candy etc???

once he is happy with the size i think we will focus on the best cut stone his budget can buy, playing around with the color and clarity that suits best for the budget.

so all i am doing is checking. because for me i wear a solitaire ring and the size i choose is big enough for me, my Bil is wondering if since we are picking a halo design does a smaller carat works best? or always go big? :D

oh we will look into that setting too next time, i will post pics of what ever we try so that it maybe of help to others looking at similar settings :smile1:

one question though does the embrace only come in round shape stones? i only saw the round once in the website, for the detail i think the soleste is better but honestly for me the HW micropave is still best for halos (personal opinion of course) maybe i am biased :p

too bad its not in his choice because of the price but i am smiling inside as i hope to be the only one to have a HW ring in the family (mean girls moment :graucho:) i know i know im selfish that way.

What does SHE want? If it's in budget the 1.77 would be great. But if it's OUT of budget, look around a 1.5 maybe go down in color to a G or H color and a VS clarity. Side by side you'd see the color difference, in person away from holding it up to another stone, you likely won't. But clarity you won't see without a loupe.

I think the my soon to be SiL doesn't really "want" a specific carat size but all we are sure of for now is a halo setting so the Soleste is a good choice, i also recommended a Tiffany classic 6 prong setting in a bigger stone but if the fiance wants a halo setting i think thats the way he should go for.

by the way whats your opinions on tiffany's I coloured stone? we never looked into it but i was thinking maybe for his budget, if he wants to go bigger maybe an "I" color excellently cut stone in the largest carat size maybe an option as well?

Thinking he can go easily with the 1.5++ with the budget he has without needing to finance the ring.

Well IME none of their stones are what I'd call "excellently cut." But that's not the point. I would not have any issues with an "I" colored stone though. Going down in color won't make it "inferior cut" just because it's an I.
