As I've posted before, it's true, you can walk in and buy a Birkin....at least at the New York Wall Street store.

I am not too sure about the USA boutiques but it is certainly possible to walk in and get a Birkin in some of the European boutiques. My best friend goes to Germany a few times a year and she has got a few in the Frankfurt boutiques already. I was even told my friends that you also have a good chance of coming home with a Birkin (if you are not particular about the colour and leather) if you visit any Hermes boutique in French countryside.

Giselle - it is possible but rare. And you can't be particular about what you want. If you want black/gold/bleu jean in a 35 or 30 in any leather you can just about forget it.
You want a 40 - your chances increase somewhat and there are a few (very few) 25s on shelves sometimes.

this is the way they keep interest in the birkin going....make it hard to obtain. people always want what they cannot have...so they dole them out selectively, it can be very frustrating! good luck, i hope you get one soon.
Yes, it is. Last Feb. a friend and I drove to a store a couple hours away since there is no H in my town. I bought a Dogon and some other accessories and then my friend asked about a Kelly. The SA said that she seemed more like a Birkin girl since she was carrying a large handbag already. So, he went in the back and brought out a black Birkin with gold HW in VL. She had never owned any H before and it was our first time in a boutique. Anyway, she bought that gorgeous Birkin!
my DH waited over 5 yrs to get this exact combo and he FINALLY got offered one last november!!! he almost resorted to getting the all white gold model (beautiful too but $$$)!! bc of this, he totally understood and appreciated the whole "hard to get" birkin thing when it came time for me to get one!

Giselle, it is all a matter of timing.....if you walk in when one is there, it can happen. an hour later, it can be a completely different story. They do not have a "stock" of birkins to select from---only a handful, they arrive at the store more or less when they are completed at the atelier....
I have been offered two....but only because I happened to be there the day they were declined by the person who ordered them. A day earlier or later, and I would have yet to lay eyes on one.....
