i like both, that's why i'm so confused!

i can get one piece for now and the next piece will have to be whenever we travel next year.

Mother of pearl is technically pearl so you need to be careful with perfumes, lotions, etc... because it can discolour or take away from the lustre of the MOP.

witht he cartier orchidee it's all gold and diamonds which is much more durable.

both are gorgeous pieces but I tend to buy my jewellery to wear 24/7 I don't like to baby my pieces, so I vote for the ring

this is my first foray into MOPs so don't know much about them.

for gold etc it's obvious they're truly durable.

do you think humidity can also ruin the MOPs in the long run? i live in a country much like singapore's climate.

I'm not sure. I don't live in a humid climate... I have heard someone from Florida comment that in the humidity a "film" of sorts can appear on the MOP, but its easily cleaned away with a clean cloth.
