I have followed this over on PS. I am so sad you don't love the ring as is, it's to die for. But if it's not comfortable you have to change it. I think side rounds would be great. But what would you do with the pears?

hi fellow PS'er ! i posted this thread here too so that i can get a little more opinion / advice ... i find that some posters on PS can be a little harsh sometimes... PF'ers are just much nicer to talk with!

yes i am leaning towards the the rounds too. i have just emailed the store and asked that they bring out 2 more sets of sidestones (0.2ct and 0.23ct) so that i can take more photos of the different combinations.

for the pears, i would either turn them into causal diamond ear studs, or possibly into 2 delicate pendants over an 18" thin chain to wear around the neck. i love delicate necklaces! i am also currently obsessing over the tiffany elsa peretti diamond by the yeard single pendant necklace (put it on my xmas wishlist)!

If you made a bezel out of one and a basket setting out of the other you'd have both bases covered!

Personally I prefer smaller side stones than most people use. My replacement diamond is 1.15ct, and I would likely not exceed .33ct per stone with that size. If I had done 3 stone with my stolen .86ct I wanted no larger than .25. I just like the center to stand out.

If it were me, I would make the pear sides a pair of dangling ear-rings. The shape of a pear is perfect for the dangling look. Personally, I prefer a bigger pear pendant for a necklace. Somehow, the real-estate of my front (neck/chest area) is much larger than that of my finger, so a tiny pear will get lost when worn as a pendant. You may think about bezel setting to make the pear look larger. Yet, somehow, I prefer the cleaner look of prong setting for a pear.

As for your 3-stone e-ring, have you considered setting the small round sides with a v-shape anchor at the end (i.e., two prongs next to the center stones and a v-shape prong at the shank end)? The rsulting look will look more streamlined and flow better. What do you think?

i think it would be really fun to think of ways to do with my pears... can't wait !!

for the 3-stone ring, right now i'm thinking of using 3 prongs - 2 near the center stone and 1 on the right / left side... perhaps this way the rounds would look like super fat pears?

perhaps one in basket setting in white gold, and one in bezel setting in yellow gold! :p

so you are thinking of pear sides for your replacement engagement ring? to avoid my mistake i would suggest you have your jeweler pull out different side stone sizes (0.2ct, 0.25ct, 0.3ct pears) for you to compare! i didn't do that at all and let my jeweler do his job on his own so now i end up having to change things around.

Here is a photo of the round sides with the v-shape edge on left/right ends. Don't the round sides look like fat pears that you want? In addition, please check out the proportion. The center stone is 1.71 ct (similar to yours bt a tad smaller), and the sides are 0.33 ct each. I think the proportion is perfect. What do yo think? Of course, the sides can be smaller (0.30 ct) and would still look great.

I was, but when I tried on a few different styles I didn't love it on my hand. All the 3 stone settings on my hand looked like a big wide blur of stones, you couldn't tell the difference. Now a lot of that was ratios being unfavorable but we didn't love the look. And a setting would have to be custom-made since I "require" my rings all sit completely flush. And there aren't many 3-stone styles that are.

I ended up with just a solitaire.
