i received my e-ring in March, and it is now November. Over the past 9 months of wearing this ring every day, the pears side stones have been bothering me. i really have given the side stones a chance! the pointy end of the pears have been poking my adjacent fingers. Furthermore, the knife edge shank has started to bother me in terms of comfort. Another major problem is that i feel that the ring setting has made the whole ring look like a large sideways marquis... the sidestones don't do the center stone justice!! The center stone has an incredibly perfect cut and color that make it face up larger than its actual size visually, so as much as i love love love this ring, i really feel that smaller side stones in another shape and a flatter / rounded thin shank would be the way to go for me in the long run.

after many and lengthy discussions with DF, he finally agreed with me on changing the setting!

stats on my current e-ring (custom made in NYC):

designer: D. Vatche
ring size: 5 minus (a smidge smaller than size 5)
center stone: 1.75ct F VVS2
side stones: 0.60ctw F VVS2
material: platinum

I am located in Hong Kong for the moment until the end of 2009, and my uncle owns a couture jewelry company here that makes some really exquisit settings. They made me an incredible wedding band (see below pic), so i figured that it would be perfect for them to help reset my ring so that the prongs would match.

below is my favorite option so far (center stone is the same size as my current one).... side stones total at 0.49ct, E and F color, VVS1

wedding band stats:
ring size: 5
number of stones: 20
total carat weight: 1.6ct
width of band: 2.8mm
material: platinum

please excuse the sidestones looking a little wonky as they are only tacked onto a solitaire band for me to look at! they are not set at all.

what do you think???

I plan to go into the store again this coming saturday, so i would love to collect as many suggestions / opinions /advice from everyone!

thanks so much in advance! :smile1:

first let me say your ring(s) are absolutely stunning!!!!!

Choose what you love! My e-ring has a baguette on each side of my round as to not take away from the center stone too.
can you post another angle of your wedding band i love it!!!!!

oh wow you're up early!!

no problem! i had planned to take a few photos of the wedding band profile photos while i'm at the store anyway (it's securely living there right now hehehe)...

i agree, i think your original e-ring is absolutely gorgeous. but, you're the one that has to be happy with it because you'll be wearing it forever! that being said, i love the setting you have chosen with the smaller rounds on the sides. i think it's gorgeous and it definitely gives the center stone a lot more pop—more so than your e-ring. not only that, if comfort is also a major issue, that could be problematic over time, as well. the last thing you want with such a gorgeous setting is to not wear the e-ring because of its comfort.

i also have a pear center stone with two baguettes on the side and i love it, but since you have a round center stone, you might not like it as much. obviously they're completely two different shaped stones.

go with what works for you and if you think you'll love the round sides, then go for it! thankfully your fiancé is on board so he isn't insulted or hurt.

good luck!

p.s. your eternity ring is gorgeous, too!

I prefer the pears as opposed to the new side stones - what about trying bullets or tapered baguettes?

In the end - all that matters is that you are happy with it - if you like the round side stones, get them.

^I was about to post the exact same thing.
I prefer the pears but if you must change I'd choose long baguettes instead.
I will eventually have the tapered baguettes along side of my solitaire a la Harry Winston :D

thankyou for your advice!

i have always thought that stones set with a different "brilliance" (aka round set with emerald-like step cuts) would look sort of strange.... guess i'm wrong?

can any of you post your (obviously) gorgy e-rings?

xoxo !!

I am a little biased since I have a 3 stone all rounds but I have to say I LOVE the pears. However, if it is uncomfortable after that amount of time for you maybe it is time to go with the rounds. I also have a shared prong wedding band so if you go with the round sides we'll have very similar rings :D.

Good luck!

:nuts: i would love to see your set !:nuts:

You're welcome.
Actually although they are similar to what I want I couldn't find a pic.
I want the baguettes w/o those big bars at the end. Almost as if the baguettes are a more integral part of the band, like you almost don't notice them. That way it's all about the center stone. I think that design would work really well w/ any band you ever want to pair it w/.

I was looking around for the USB cords for my camera to take a pic for you and they are at home so I cannot show you. My ring is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than yours tho. 1.5 total for the 3 stone and 1/2 total for a 5 stone shared prong (I don't personally do eternity since they cannot be sized). I am actually looking at a 1.75 right now to upgrade the center tho and I thought this was ironic reading your thread today :smile1:

it's a sign! it's a sign!!! :graucho:

thankyou, i would really love to see your set, i'm sure it's really gorgeous! i know about the eternity's ... my uncle's company had to make the mold for me 3 times before getting the size right with the 20 stones i specifically requested, no more no less. they finally got it right and i can't be happier!
