Lilly would go in and outside until she was about 9 or 10. I've since made her stay in the house; she is just too old, I worry for her getting lost. She has done that disappearing thing a few times when she was out a few times too. Isn't that scary? It is great that your Zola is tagged and chipped!

Ya I freak out! She's my child!!!!! I can only hope that nothing bad happens if she is out and gets picked up by the pound she is scanned. One time she was lost just a block or 2 away, crying in a tree and a neighbor found her and coaxed her down. Called her vet tag # and the vet gave her my # to get ahold of me. Picked her up that afternoon!

OMG, this thread is GREAT!! Love seeing all your pet pictures!

It reminded me of some photos I just took.... getting ready for a huge reveal in the next week or two, and my two cats just had to "help" :p

I love the way the white one is hiding.

Aww ~ Thanks!!!

The long-haired one is "Moxie" ~ the one behind my profile name here, and she earned her name because she's my little tough girl. She was found in a dumpster when she was 4 weeks old, had other health issues, and initially I was told she may only live 3 months to 3 years... And the white one is "Ferus" - which is Latin for "wild" because he was feral when I was first asked to foster him.

Both are rescues from my days of working in veterinary medicine.... both were scheduled to be euthanized the day I decided to take them home... have had Moxie for 13 years now, and Ferus for almost 9 (remember when I first said he was a "foster"? Yeah, he never left). :p

Gorgeous! (And the bag is pretty, too!) :graucho:

Thank you all! I think today took the record for the most tpf messages I had waiting for me when I logged on - mostly because of Charlie! I bought Charlie at a pet store. He was just so adorable. I couldn't believe how detailed the shell was in miniature. When I first got him, he got an eye infection and I had to put drops in his eyes. His eyes were about the size of a pinhead and the dropper was almost as big as his whole head. When he was little, I had to put him in water every day so he could absorb some through his shell. He hated that. We let him wander around when the kids were playing. I fed him Romaine lettuce, spinach and weeds. He slept in an aquarium at night under a heat lamp. When he got a little bigger, I took him outside during the summer. At first, I put him in a kid's wading pool (without water) so he wouldn't get lost. Then later, I let him wander and tried to keep an eye on him. One day he got lost. We lived on a ranch of over 100 acres at the time. The next day, he showed up right at the door! Since we moved to our current house almost 10 years ago, he has been living in the backyard, surviving almost entirely on whatever he finds there to eat. Occasionally I will give him some leftover lettuce or dandelions I've pulled. Here's a picture of him as a baby with my kid's Playmobil castle. The picture with the Sophia was taken in February 2012. The last picture was taken a few days ago. His nose was wet from eating grass. He isn't out right now or I would take a better picture. I don't have any pictures of him with "lipstick" on my computer. I'll have to wait for summer when the plums drop off the trees.

Oh wow, thanks so much for the additional Charlie pics and the information! He is just wonderful, and it's so great to know more about him. I would have had a heart attack if he'd wandered off on the ranch like he did --- I'm so happy he showed up at your door the next day, that's amazing! What a beautiful creature he is! I love the picture with your Sophia, the way you captured him it's as if he's smiling for the camera! :D

Yay for Moxie for surviving against the odds!
Both my cats were feral but I got them when they were babies. My calico had her ear mangled by a dog before I got her at 6 weeks. She only lived to 10. When she was little, she sat on my neck most of the day. I had to walk around hunched over so she wouldn't fall off. She was the most loving cat ever but she was a one person cat. Even the vet was afraid of her.

My orange tabby is 8. His mother kept her kittens in a tree. The first time they fell out, my daughter put them back. The second time, we decided she was an unfit mother and bottle fed the kittens. Their eyes weren't even open yet. The other kitten died, probably from injuries in the fall. My daughter got up every four hours to feed Twinkie. He has always been shy. I thought he would have bonded better since we got him so young.

Thanks! I love his crooked little smile. The scariest time we ever had was when he got entangled in a cord. It was wrapped around his neck and his leg. It was really hard to remove it because he was so scared that he kept retreating into his shell.

I know what you mean about the vet - Ferus is the same way, and I no longer take him in unless absolutely necessary. Thankfully, I can do most of his routine care here, and then for the stuff I'm no longer licensed to do, my vet does house calls.... She's amazing.

I can't believe that about your tabby.... The kittens were in a TREE? That is one of the strangest places I've heard of, to keep kittens. I'm glad to hear Twinkie survived... Kudos to your daughter for taking on that commitment!

I'm loving your Charlie stories as well -- he seems like a pretty neat pet... and everyone's photo-bombs... this thread is awesome. :smile1:

Here is Twinkie "helping" me surf tpf. He has taken over the mousepad. Luckily I can use my mouse with my left hand. He always ends up pushing keys and odd things happen!

Hahaha~ that second pic is hilarious - something about the expression on his face... what a cutie-pie. It's interesting, but Twinkie and Ferus are kind of twins lol! Ferus has the exact same orange spot on the right side of his nose.

That's odd about the spot. When he was a kitten, I tried to clean it off a few times!

Charlie is the coolest!
Thanks!

My childhood cat lived until 22 :-D If your cat is an indoor cat, the chances of old age are so much higher.

I may or may not be a crazy cat lady, so take that how you will :-p

Hahahaha I may or may not be a crazy cat lady with just ONE! Lol she's so spoiled and adorable. Awake now because all night tonight she has woke me up running around the house, we will definitely be working off all of that energy BEFORE bed tonight!

You say that about keys being pushed...with how the iPhone is sensitive to touch my cat can walk across or stand on my phone and the pads of her feet push buttons. She sends discombulated texts often lol
